WESTERN HOCKEY LEAGUE: (Two playoff games)

Swift Current Broncos  5  Lethbridge Hurricanes  1
(Broncos win the best-of-seven Eastern Conference Final 4-2. Lethbridge outshot Swift Current 34-27, including 20-2 in the first period, but the Broncos scored five straight goals over the final 40 minutes)

This was the last junior game for ex-PG Cougars Brad Morrison and Tate Olson of the Hurricanes.

Morrison did not have a point Monday, but was named the WHL Player of the Week after notching seven points (four goals) in his three previous games.

The 21-year-old from Prince George leads the playoff scoring race with 37 points (16G, 21A) in 16 post-season games.

Olson, a defenceman, had 19 points (three goals) in 16 games, to go along with a team high +14 rating.

Both Morrison and Olson played four seasons with the Cougars from 2013-14 to 2016-17.

Everett Silvertips  6  Tri-City Americans  5  (OT)
(Kevin Davis scored his second goal of the game on a power play at 5:58 of overtime as the Silvertips erased a 5-2 deficit with 10 1/2 minutes left in the third period. Everett, 7-0 on the road in the playoffs, wins the Western Conference Final 4-2 and will visit Swift Current Friday and Saturday in the first two games of the league championship series for the Ed Chynoweth Cup)

The WHL Bantam Draft will be held Thursday in Red Deer.

The Prince George Cougars have the ninth and 21st overall picks.

The Edmonton Oil Kings will select first followed by the Kootenay Ice and the Prince Albert Raiders.

 

NHL: (Two games in the best-of-seven Conference semi-finals)

Vegas Golden Knights  4  San Jose Sharks  3  (OT)
(William Karlsson scored 8:17 into overtime to give the Golden Knights a 2-1 series lead with game four Wednesday night at 7 in San Jose)

Tampa Bay Lightning  4  Boston Bruins  2
(Brayden Point scored in an empty-net and added three assists to help the Lightning tie the Eastern Conference semi-final 1-1 with game three Wednesday (4PM) in Boston)

The other two NHL Conference semis resume tonight: Washington at Pittsburgh (4:30) and Nashville at Winnipeg (5:00). Both series are tied 1-1.

Lou Lamoriello is out as general manager of the Toronto Maple Leafs.

The 75-year-old Lamoriello will remain with the team in a senior advisor role.

The Carolina Hurricanes have sacked their president of hockey operations Ron Francis, who also served as the team’s GM until March 7th.

 

DOYLE CUP JUNIOR HOCKEY:

The BCHL champion Wenatchee Wild visit the AJHL champion Spruce Grove Saints tonight in game three of the Doyle Cup.

Wenatchee leads the best-of-seven series 2-0.

The Doyle Cup winner will qualify for the RBC National Junior ‘A’ Championship May 12th to 20th in Chilliwack.

(First game of the season for both teams)

The Prince George Senior Lacrosse regular season will continue Wednesday night at 8 at Kin 1 as the defending champion RPR Mechanical/J.R. Construction Bandits battle the Stylers.

 

VOLLEYBALL:

The Prince George Red U-15 Girls captured bronze out of 64 teams at the Provincial club volleyball championships in Abbotsford.

The PG U-15 boys red team placed fourth.

Next up will be the Club Nationals starting May 17th in Edmonton.

 

GYMNASTICS:

Prince George gymnast Alia Wilson placed sixth overall in her division (including fifth on bars) at the Western Canadian Gymnastics Championships in Spruce Grove, Alberta.

Wilson also helped Team BC to a first place finish.

 

NBA: (One playoff game)

Boston Celtics  117  Philadelphia 76’ers  101
(Celtics lead the Eastern Conference semi-final 1-0 with game two Thursday night at 5:30 in Boston)

The Toronto Raptors open their second round series at home against the Cleveland Cavaliers tonight at 5.

Game two in the Western semi between the New Orleans Pelicans and the Golden State Warriors will be played tonight at 7:30 in Oakland with the Warriors up 1-0.

 

MLB:

Toronto Blue Jays  7  Minnesota Twins  5

The 16-12 Blue Jays began an eight-game, seven day road trip. The Twins fell to 9-15.

Toronto is third in the AL East, two games behind the 18-10 NY Yankees and five back of the 21-7 Boston Red Sox.
