STANLEY CUP PLAYOFFS: (Two Monday games in the Conference semi-finals)

Nashville Predators  4  Winnipeg Jets  0

Best-of-seven Western semi-final tied 3-3 with the seventh and deciding game Thursday at 5PM in Nashville.

Pekka Rinne made 34 saves for the shutout and Filip Forsberg scored two superb goals and added an assist.

The winner meets the Vegas Golden Knights in the Western Conference Final.

Washington Capitals  2  Pittsburgh Penguins  1  (OT)

There will be new Stanley Cup champions as the Capitals win 4-2 to advance to the East Final for the first time in 20 years.

Washington will face the Lightning starting Friday in Tampa Bay.

Evgeny Kuznetsov tallied his seventh goal of the playoffs at 5:27 of overtime.

The Washington-Tampa match-up will include forward Brett Connolly of Prince George against Lightning coach Jon Cooper of Prince George.

The 26-year-old Connolly will be playing against the team that drafted him.

 

WESTERN HOCKEY LEAGUE:

The scene has shifted to Everett for the next three games, tonight, Wednesday and Friday in the WHL Final for the Ed Chynoweth Cup.

The Silvertips and the Swift Current Broncos are tied 1-1 in the best-of-seven championship series.

The WHL champion advances to the Memorial Cup May 18th to 27th in Regina.

PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

The Prince George Cougars MVP in the 2017-18 season will play University hockey in the fall.

Jared Bethune, the Cougars leading scorer, has committed to play men’s hockey at Queen’s University in Kingston, Ontario.

 

ROYAL BANK CUP JUNIOR HOCKEY:

The BCHL and Doyle Cup champion Wenatchee Wild play the host Chilliwack Chiefs in their first game Saturday night at the RBC National Junior ‘A’ Championship.

Assistant Brian Maloney has taken over as head coach of the Chiefs after Chilliwack sacked Jason Tatarnic last week after four years on the job.

 

WORLD HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP: (in Denmark)

Canada  7  Denmark  1

The Canadian team plays its next game Thursday against Norway.

Canada is 2-1; 5-4 shootout loss against USA followed by 10-0 win over Korea.

NBA: (A pair of games in the Eastern Conference semi-finals)

Cleveland Cavaliers  128  Toronto Raptors  93

Cavs sweep the series 4-0 to advance to the East Final against Boston or Philadelphia.

It was the 10th straight time in the playoffs that Cleveland beat Toronto.

The Raptors are the first #1 seed in the NBA to be swept prior to the Conference/Division Final in 49 years since the 1969 Baltimore Bullets.

Celtics lead 3-1 with game five of the East semi-final Wednesday night at 5 in Boston.

Both NBA Western Conference semi-finals resume tonight with the visitors having their season on the line.

Utah plays at Houston (5PM) followed by New Orleans at Golden State (7:30PM).

The Rockets and Warriors both lead 3-1.

Next league game will be played Wednesday night at 8 at Kin 1 between the Westwood Pub Devils and the Mackenzie Lumberjacks.

 

VOLLEYBALL:

The Prince George Kodiaks U13 girls brought home the bronze medal from the Provincial club volleyball championships in Abbotsford.

The Kodiaks finished with an overall 5-1 record which included 3-0 in the round robin and 2-1 in the playoffs.

 

SPECIAL OLYMPICS:

Seven Prince George Special Olympics athletes all had a top three finish at the Provincial Power-lifting Championships in Victoria.

The PG Power-lifters, under the direction of Special Olympics coach Jay Cooke, combined to earn five gold, a silver and a bronze.

 

MLB:

The 19-16 Toronto Blue Jays host the 19-14 Seattle Mariners tonight to begin a six-game home-stand.

Toronto is third in the AL East, 5 1/2 games behind the NY Yankees and 6 1/2 back of the Boston Red Sox.

Seattle is third in the AL West, a game behind Houston and 1 1/2 back of the LA Angels.
