The Mackenzie Omenica Fabricating Lumberjacks scratched and clawed against the Westwood Pub Devils, but in the end it wasn’t enough.
The defending Dale Rolufs Memorial Champions outlasted the Lumberjacks by a 12-7 score on Wednesday in PG Senior Lacrosse action from Kin 1.
After a lethargic start, which saw the Devils trail 4-3 after 20 minutes, Westwood exploded for six goals in the middle frame giving themselves a 9-5 advantage en route to their second victory of the season.
“We started off the season a little slow this year so it was good to get the W.
We are .500 right now at 2-2, so it’s a little bit good to get that win right now and get the boys clicking,” says Dylan Long, Devils Forward.

Long had a fruitful night offensively with a hat-trick but the turning point in the game for the Devils might have been what was said in the locker room by one of their veteran leaders and coach.
“Scotty (Anderson) had a big speech before the second period and I think that fired me up just to try and get the boys going a little.”
The Devils have a mix of youth and experience this season; one of the younger players leading the charge is local product Chris Finden.
The two-sport athlete, who also suits up for the Vancouver Island Raiders of the BC Junior Football League, was as relieved as anybody to snap out of the brief cold spell.
“It’s nice to get a win and we’ve been clicking a lot more and if we stay out of the box we have a much better chance of winning. The guys focused and got a little pumped up after the first and we just got going.”
