NHL: (7th and deciding game in the second round series)

Winnipeg Jets  5  Nashville Predators   1

Jets won the second round series 4-3 to advance to the Conference Final for the first time.

Mark Scheifele scored twice to give him a record seven road goals in a single series.

Paul Stastny also notched a pair of goals, and added an assist.

Nashville goalie Pekka Renne allowed two weak goals on seven shots to get the hook for the third time at home in the series.

The visiting team won five of the seven games.

The Jets host Vegas Saturday at 4 and Monday at 5 in the first two games of the Western Final.

The NHL Eastern Conference Final will start tonight (5PM) in Tampa between the Lightning and the Washington Capitals.

The Washington-Tampa match-up includes Caps forward Brett Connolly of Prince George against Lightning coach Jon Cooper of Prince George.

The 26-year-old Connolly will be playing against the team that drafted him.

 

WORLD HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP: (in Denmark)

Canada  5  Norway  0

Connor McDavid notched a hat trick and Bo Horvat scored twice.

The 3-0-1 Canadian team continues round robin play Saturday against Finland (11:15am).

KAMLOOPS BLAZERS:

The Kamloops Blazers are looking for a new coach and general manager.

Head Coach Don Hay has retired, but he will remain with the team in an advisory role.

Hay is the winningest coach in WHL history with 750 victories over 20 seasons.

General Manager Stu MacGregor has been reassigned to the Dallas Stars amateur scouting department.

The Blazers also announced that Director of Player Personnel, Matt Recchi and Assistant Coach, Mike Needham will not have their contracts renewed.

 

WESTERN HOCKEY LEAGUE:

The Swift Current Broncos go for the Ed Chynoweth Cup when they visit the Everett Silvertips tonight.

The Broncos lead the best-of-seven WHL championship series 3-1.

All games in the series have been decided by one goal.

The WHL winner advances to the Memorial Cup May 18th to 27th in Regina.

ROYAL BANK CUP JUNIOR HOCKEY:

The Royal Bank Cup National Jr. ‘A’ Championship begins this weekend.

The host Chilliwack Chiefs and the Doyle Cup champion Wenatchee Wild meet Saturday night.

The other three teams in the tournament are the Steinbach Pistons (Manitoba Junior Hockey League), Ottawa Junior Senators (Central Canada Hockey League), and Wellington Dukes (Ontario Junior Hockey League).

The Red Sox are tied with the New York Yankees for the AL East Division lead, 6 1/2 games ahead of the Jays.

 

NBA:

The NBA Eastern Conference Final opens Sunday at 12:30 with the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Boston Celtics.

The Western Final begins Monday night at 6 with the Golden State Warriors at the Houston Rockets.

Dan Martin scored six goals for the Bandits.

PRINCE GEORGE SOCCER:

The Prince George Soccer Association kicks off its new adult season with an Ice Breaker tournament Saturday and Sunday.

This is the first season that the North Cariboo Senior Soccer League and the PG Women’s Soccer Association have amalgamated.
