Brett Connolly of Prince George assisted on the game winning goal by Jay Beagle early in the second period.

Game two will be played Sunday night at 5 in Tampa.

The Winnipeg Jets host the Vegas Golden Knights tonight (4:00) in the opener of the Western Conference Final.

WORLD HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP: (in Denmark)

Canada plays Finland today (11:15 a.m.) at the world hockey championship in Denmark.

The Canadian team is 3-0-1 after four round robin games.

 

WESTERN HOCKEY LEAGUE:

Everett Silvertips  6  Swift Current Broncos  3

Game was closer than the score indicated as the last two goals came into an empty net.

Broncos lead the best-of-seven final for the Ed Chynoweth Cup 3-2, with game six Sunday night in Swift Current.

The WHL winner advances to the Memorial Cup May 18th to 27th in Regina.

The host Chilliwack Chiefs play the Doyle Cup champion Wenatchee Wild tonight at the Royal Bank Cup national Jr. A championship.

NBA:

The search is on for a new coach for the Toronto Raptors.

A team record 59 regular season wins wasn’t enough for Dwane Casey, who was sacked with one year left on his contract.

Casey is the Raptors all-time leader in wins and games coached, with a regular-season record of 320-238 over seven seasons.

The 61-year-old Casey was named the NBA Coaches Association’s Coach of the Year, an award voted on by his peers.

The NBA Eastern Conference Final tips off Sunday at 12:30 with the Cleveland Cavaliers at the Boston Celtics.

The Western Final begins Monday night at 6 with the Golden State Warriors at the Houston Rockets.

There are a pair PG Sr. Lacrosse games this weekend in Mackenzie.

The 0-3 Lumberjacks host the 2-2 Quesnel Crossfire tonight at 8 and Sunday morning at 11.

The Prince George Soccer Association starts its new adult season with an Ice Breaker tournament today and Sunday.

This is the first season that the North Cariboo Senior Soccer League and the PG Women’s Soccer Association have amalgamated.
