NHL: (Second game in the Eastern Conference Final)

Washington Capitals  6  Tampa Bay Lightning   2

Capitals lead 2-0 with the series to shift to Washington for games three and four Tuesday and Thursday (5pm).

Brett Connolly of Prince George scored his third goal of the playoffs for the Caps who erased a 2-1 deficit after one period.

The 26-year-old Connolly assisted on the game winning goal in the opener, which was won by Washington 4-2.

The NHL Western Final resumes tonight, 5PM in Winnipeg.

The Jets doubled the Vegas Golden Knights 4-2 in the opener.

Former PG Cougar Dustin Byfuglien scored the opening goal of the series and added an assist for the Jets.

 

WESTERN HOCKEY LEAGUE:

Swift Current Broncos  3  Everett Silvertips  0

Broncos win the WHL best-of-seven final for the Ed Chynoweth Cup 4-2.

Former PG Cougar Josh Anderson is part of the Swift Current team that advances to the Memorial Cup in Regina May 18th to 27th.

Stuart Skinner blocked 31 shots for his sixth shutout of the playoffs.

It is the third WHL title for Swift Current (previous championships in 1989 and 1993)

The Hamilton Bulldogs are OHL playoff champions.

The Bulldogs beat the Soo Greyhounds 5-4 to win the series 4-2 and qualify for the Memorial Cup.

The QMJHL championship was won by Acadie-Bathurst Titan.

ABORIGINAL HOCKEY:

Forward Corey Cunningham and defenceman Jayce Schweizer of PG helped BC win the gold medal in the Male Division at the National Aboriginal Hockey Championships in Membertou, Nova Scotia.

Cunningham had three assists while Schweizer set up two goals in the final as BC erased a 5-2 deficit to beat Saskatchewan 6-5 in overtime.

Cunningham, who played this season with the Prince George Spruce Kings, finished the tournament with two goals and six assists, while Schweizer had five assists in six games.

In the Female Division, BC, coached by Justin Fillion of Prince George, lost 4-3 in OT to Saskatchewan in the bronze medal game.

The BC female team included five players from PG and one each from Smithers, Fraser Lake and Williams Lake.

 

WORLD HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIP: (in Denmark)

Coming off a 5-1 loss (Saturday) to Finland, Canada plays Latvia today (11:15AM) and Germany Tuesday (7:15AM) at the world hockey championship in Denmark.

The Canadian team is 3-1-1 in Pool ‘A.’

 

MLB:

Boston Red Sox  5  Toronto Blue Jays  3

Toronto finished just 2-4 on a six-game home-stand.

The 21-20 Blue Jays are 3rd in the AL East, 7 1/2 games behind both the 28-12 Red Sox and NY Yankees.

Toronto will visit the 19-18 New York Mets Tuesday and Wednesday.

 

NBA: (First game in the best-of-seven Eastern Conference Final)

Boston Celtics  108  Cleveland Cavaliers  83

Celtics up 1-0 with game two Tuesday night at 5:30 in Boston.
