Studio 2880 introduces Healing Art Kits

Seniors and at-risk community members now have a chance to experience and create new art thanks to Studio 2880.

Nine Healing Art Kits have been made for artists to join groups of up to ten people. They are designed to promote the connections between arts and health.

Each session is $150 and between 90 minutes to two hours. Program Coordinator Karen Heathman explains what will happen after making an appointment.

“We will arrange a time, we’ll go there with the artist, the artist will go there with the kit, demonstrate and have people make them, and then leave them all with a piece of art a the end.”

Heathman says this will allow artists the opportunity to reach out to more people in Prince George. She notes it transform PG from a “community with art to an arts community”.

“I would like to see more and more and more of this because it really does help people connect with each other and teaches them a new skill,” Heathman explains.

“A lot of the people who are doing these kits will go on and do this over and over again or maybe buy their own supplies or maybe teach it to their friends.”

All nine kits are specialized to a different form of art. They include acrylic painting, ceramic tiles, collage fabric art, jewellery, journalling, knitting, print making, sculpture, and watercolour painting.
