Tourism PG, PG Chamber celebrating National Tourism Week

National Tourism Week is coming up May 27th to June 2nd.

Tourism Prince George is pairing with the Prince George Chamber of Commerce to celebrate with two events in the city.

The first is a breakfast speaker series titled Why Tourism Matters on may 24th. Tourism Industry Association of BC CEO Walt Judas will be the keynote speaker. Topics discussed will include how tourism has become the key driver of the provincial economy, the implications of the 2018 provincial budget and government regulations on the industry, the six critical issues on TIABC’s radar that need to be addressed in order to maintain the momentum, how individual businesses and residents can contribute to or benefit from tourism, and the future of tourism in British Columbia.

Then there is a Business after 3pm Open House on June 1st. It acts as a networking opportunity and chance to connect with Tourism PG.

“We look forward to having even more tourists visit our city and our region in 2018, taking part in festivals and events, attractions, restaurants, accommodation and more,” says Tourism Prince George CEO, Erica Hummel.

In 2017, the Northern BC Tourism Region reported 221,299 travellers in the region, an increase of 8.6% in visitation. This amounted to an average occupancy rate in Prince George of 69%, up 3.4% from 2016. The Prince George Airport saw over 499,000 passengers through YXS, an 8.0% increase over 2016.
