The Prince George Youth Soccer Association has been running its Soccer Swap for two weeks and is getting a positive response.

The free program sees kids swap well-conditioned equipment like cleats for other, better fitting equipment that was also swapped in an effort to reduce playing costs for families.

“We just wanted to help provide resources so that these kids can have access to the proper equipment that they need without additional costs to families,” explains PGYSA President Kerrie Secor.

“That’s our loaner program. You can come in and if you don’t have anything to swap, you can borrow a set of cleats for the year and return them at the end of the season.”

With 1,450 registered members in PGYSA, Secor is hoping for 150 to participate in the program for the first year with the expectation to continue to expand year by year.

“We’re still accepting donations because obviously the more sizes we have the more people can access it,” Secor says.

“But hopefully as people hear about it and with the soccer season gearing up last week, I think it will start to get accessed more and even throughout the season as people outgrow their cleats.”

Equipment can be dropped off at the PGYSA during office hours.
