Former Cariboo Cougar talks mental health with prime minister

Prince George athlete Myles Mattila visited Ottawa to discuss metal health with prime minister Justin Trudeau.

The two talked about youth mental health, early intervention and a new initiative Mattlia is part of called Lose the Mask.

The former Cariboo Cougar didn’t want to give out to much information because they are in the early stages of the project.

“We’re going to talk about the program and what it’s all about in the future, but what I can say is that it will be directed towards athletes and youth in general because, with the program, we are going to be going to high schools talking to kids about early intervention.”

Mattila says the initiative is going to bring bigger leaps to help youth in the hockey community struggling with mental health.

The project is being piloted by Corey Hirsch, former goaltender and current color commentator for the Vancouver Canucks.

It’s not known when more details will be released.
