More than 10,000 evacuees settled into Prince George last summer due to wildfires spreading across the Cariboo.

With people coming in from as far as 100 Mile House, the Regional District of Fraser-Fort George (RDFFG) decided to step up, coordinating with local suppliers to provide services such as food, water, and first aid, and their efforts have now officially been honoured by the province.

During Thursday’s annual board meeting, members from Emergency Management BC (EMBC) presented the district with a plaque of recognition for supporting its sister district’s operations centre in the Cariboo.

The RDFFG also awarded 15 Community and Recreation Grants to local organizations, listed as follows:

  • $21,000 = Willow River Rec. Association (community hall completion, maintenance expenses)
