Prince George residents set to pedal for mental health

The sixth annual Ride Don’t Hide for mental health kicks off tomorrow at the CN Centre.

Every year thousands of cyclists and non-cyclists participate from 30 communities across Canada and raise funds for the Canadian Mental Health Association(CMHA), in Prince George the goal this year is to raise $35,000.

“54 per cent of Canadians report being discriminated against for having a mental health illness and sometimes that’s from a relationship or from work or could be from a variety of different ways,” says Mary Lu Spargrud, Manager of Education and Projects for CMHA.

“It’s good to get out and talk about it and recognize people aren’t alone.”

Todd Doherty will be in attendance and they are giving him the 100th Anniversary Achievement award for his work on bill C-211.

“Todd has been an amazing voice for not only our first responders, veterans, and military on post-traumatic stress disorder but mental health and overall wellness and health in general,” added Spargrud.

“He has been a huge advocate and echos a lot of the same messages that we have here at CMHA.”

Ride Don’t Hide starts at 930am with other events taking place including kid zone activity, health fair, and a barbecue.
