Smoky skies blanket PG as wildfire burns near Hixon

An 1,100-hectare wildfire south of Prince George has sent smoky skies above the Northern capital this event.

The Comstock Lake blaze, located 100 kilometres west of Hixon, along with winds pushing North, has caused visible hazy smoke and is likely to linger over the next couple of days.

According to the BC Wildfire Service, no communities or structures are impacted by the blaze.

The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George (RDFFG) has said there no evacuations in effect for Prince George and the surrounding areas.

Environment Canada has not issued a special weather advisory and BC Ministry of Environment meteorologists have not called an air quality advisory at this time.

Since Wednesday, the Cariboo Fire Centre saw 60 new wildfires burn and thanks to successful attacks by firefighters, supported by heavy equipment and aircraft, 45 of them have been put out.

The BC Wildfire Service is once again reminding everyone to be cautious with any activities that could spark a wildfire.

If you see a wildfire, report it to the Service as soon as possible by calling 1 (800) 663-5555, or dialing by *5555 on their cellphone.
