Lheidli T’enneh says no to treaty after weekend vote

For the second time, the L’heidli Tenneh has said no to a treaty with both the provincial and federal governments.

An approved treaty would have provided over 37-million dollars as well as resource revenue sharing.

If the vote passed, over 4,300 hectares of land owned by the First Nation would have also been provided.

One hundred and eighty-five members voted against while 137 voted in favor on Saturday.

The Lheidli Tenneh would have taken the host First Nation out of the Indian Act to create their own government entity was also defeated.
