UPDATE: Severe Thunderstorm watch issued for Prince George

Update 10:40 AM

Prince George is now under a severe thunderstorm watch after an intense downpour came down in the northern capital just after 10 AM this morning, which also brought some small hail for the second time this week.

Packing a raincoat and an umbrella wouldn’t be a bad idea as more rain is expected to soak Prince George this weekend.

The northern capital has already seen some unstable conditions following Wednesday’s thunderstorm, which saw some hail.

“We’re looking at highs of only 18 degrees for Saturday and probably some thunderstorms mixed in with those showers and Sunday looks a little better with partly sunny skies and a high of 23,” says Trevor Smith, Environment Canada Meteorologist.

“There’s no watches out right now though I would advise listeners to stay tuned to the forecast and there is the potential we could issue watches later on this morning for the Prince George area and it looks like the thunderstorms could be of the healthy variety where we could see 10 to 15 millimetres of rain and we could even see some hail mixed in.”

He adds the recent weather is expected to continue until the early part of next week.

“It’s after Tuesday where we start to see kind of the summertime ridge of high pressure starting to build in over the southern part of BC and I think the Central Interior including Prince George and Vanderhoof should start to feel some of the fringe benefits of that southern ridge.”

Sunday is expected to be a little better with a predicted high of 23 degrees and a mix of sun and cloud.
