Local fire crews sent East to fight wildfires

Members from the Prince George Fire Centre are in Ontario and Quebec to help with firefighting efforts in those provinces.

The BC Wildfire Service announced it was sending 55 more personnel to the east, joining the already 145 members who were deployed earlier this week.

“Our local Prince George Fire Hawks have gone to Quebec and we have also sent one additional [Initial Attack] crews,” says Fire Information Officers Amanda Reynolds. “In total, we have sent 23 firefighters over to fight specifically in Quebec.”

They are able to send crews right now because the fire danger rating is sitting at moderate.

“We are anticipating some warm hot dry weather starting this weekend and there is some confidence that it will continue. There isn’t a lot of rainfall in sight so we always have to keep that in mind but right now, Prince George Fire Centre was able to send members to Quebec.”

If conditions change, Reynolds says the centre has enough resources to handle the situation.
