LACROSSE:

The best of five Prince George Senior Lacrosse Final for the Dale Rolufs Memorial Trophy opens tonight, 8PM at Kin 1.

The regular season champion RPR Mechanical/J.R. Construction Bandits will battle the Westwood Pub Devils.

The same teams met in last year’s championship series, with the Devils prevailing in five games.

Prior to the opener, the league will hand out its all-stars for the season.

Prince George resident Cole Paciejewski is playing for Scotland at the Federation of International Lacrosse World Championship in Israel.

Scotland is 0-4 after an 18-2 loss to the USA Monday.

Earlier, the Scots fell 18-6 to Australia (Friday), 22-3 to Canada (Saturday), and 11-8 to England (Sunday).

Paciejewski has one goal in the tournament which continues this week.

The Prince George Posse earned the silver medal in the A2 division at the Provincial Pee Wee Lacrosse championship in Coquitlam.

PG lost the final 11-7 against Saanich after winning its semi-final 6-5 over New Westminster.

 

CYCLING:

Prince George cyclist Callie Swan finished ninth in her final event of BC Superweek, the Tour de White Rock.

Her ninth-place ranking is based on an Omnium point system.

BC Superweek is an annual 10-day racing event in the Lower Mainland.

 

PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

The seventh annual Prince George Cougars Alumni Hospital Charity Golf Tournament will be held Friday at CN Centre and Saturday at the PG Golf and Curling Club.

Over the past six years, the Cougars, the PG Cougars Alumni Association and the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation have teamed up to raise just shy of $400,000 towards healthcare in Northern British Columbia.

Last year a record-breaking $105,000 were raised.

All proceeds from this weekend’s tournament will complete the Spirit of the North’s Regional Cardiac Strategy for UHNBC.

An Alumni Meet & Greet (Friday 4-5 pm at CN Centre) will be held that includes an autograph session.

Confirmed alumni for this year’s tournament include: Eric Brewer (1995-1998), Chase Witala (2010-2016), Nick Drazenovic (2002-2007), and Josh Anderson (2013-2018).

 

UNBC TIMBERWOLVES:

Vancouver Island Wave striker Michael Henman has committed to play for the UNBC Timberwolves in the 2018 Canada West men’s soccer season.

The graduate of Reynolds Secondary in Victoria has played for other elite programs, such as the Victoria Highlanders U-21 team.

Henman will join the T-Wolves next month for training camp ahead of the start of the season on August 24th.

Goalkeeper Daniel Zadravec committed to the T-Wolves from the Vancouver Island Wave at the end of May.

 

MLB:

Washington Nationals slugger Bryce Harper won the Home Run Derby in his home ballpark.

Harper, a free agent at the end of the season, beat Kyle Schwarber of the Chicago Cubs 19-18 in the final round before a sold-out crowd of more than 43,000.

The MLB All-Star game will be played tonight (just after 5) in Washington.

The starting pitchers will be Max Scherzer of the Nationals for the NL and Red Sox left-hander Chris Sale for the AL.

The (43-52) Toronto Blue Jays host the (28-69) Baltimore Orioles Friday to begin a six-game homestand.

The Jays are a whopping 14 1/2 games behind Seattle for the last wild-card spot.

The Mariners, who have lost their last four, are 3 1/2 ahead of Oakland for the second wild-card berth.

 

CFL:

Calgary Stampeders QB Bo Levi Mitchell is listed as day-to-day with an injured knee.

The 4-0 Stamps visit the 1-3 Montreal Alouettes on Saturday.

WEST:

Calgary 4-0, Edmonton 3-2, B.C. 2-2, Saskatchewan 2-2, Winnipeg 2-3

EAST:

Ottawa 2-2, Hamilton 2-2, Toronto 1-3, Montreal 1-3
