Two fires have sprung up northeast of Vanderhoof.

South of Gordon Lake, near the Stuart River Provincial Park – Lower Site, a fire has reached 70 hectares in size.

“We have two initial attack crews, six firefighters there, one unit crew, which is 21 firefighters, we also have two helicopters and heavy equipment working on the fire as well,” explains Fire Information Officer Forrest Tower.

“It’s by no means a large fire so with the resources we have on the fire, it shouldn’t be that difficult to get it contained.

“Right now the equipment is just working to improve access to the fire because there isn’t really good road access so that’s what the equipment is doing.”

The other is under a hectare in size and is in Chief Lake. No cause has been determined for either fire.

Also in the Dahl Creek area, a 7.5-hectare wildfire is currently active. This fire was lightning caused.
