TORONTO RAPTORS:

The Toronto Raptors have finalized a major trade with the San Antonio Spurs.

The Spurs have agreed to send Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green to Toronto for DeMar DeRozan, Jakob Poeltl, and a protected 2019 first-round pick.

The Raptors’ first-round pick is a protected 1-20 selection.

After one year, it becomes two second-round picks.

Leonard, who has just a year left on his contract, is a two-time defensive player of the year and the 2014 NBA FInals MVP.

RPR Mechanical/J.R. Construction Bandits  9  Westwood Pub Devils 6

Dan Martin notched five goals and added two assists for the Bandits, who trailed 4-0 in the first period.

It was the 13th consecutive victory for the first-place Bandits.

Game two will be played Thursday, 8PM at Kin 1.

The league handed out its individual awards Tuesday.

Mackenzie goalie Jon Wittmeier captured the Helen McIntosh Trophy as MVP.

Scotland, which includes PG all-star forward Cole Paciejewski, is 0-5 at the Federation of International Lacrosse World Championship in Israel.

Paciejewski scored his 2nd goal of the tournament in a 14-7 loss Tuesday against the Iroquois Nationals.

In earlier action, Scotland lost 18-2 to the USA (Monday), 11-8 to England (Sunday), 22-3 to Canada (Saturday), and 18-6 to Australia (Friday).

The tourney continues this week.

 

MLB: (ALL-STAR game in Washington)

American League  8  National League  6  (10 innings)

The teams combined for an all-star record 10 homers.

Houston Astros teammates Alex Bregman and George Springer homered on consecutive pitches to begin the 10th inning.

Toronto’s J.A. Happ got the save after giving up a Joey Votto homer in the bottom of the 10th.

The AL has won six straight and 18 of the last 21 all-star games to take the series lead 44-43-2.

It appears the Baltimore Orioles will be trading their all-star shortstop Manny Machado to the LA Dodgers for several prospects.

According to media reports, the two sides have agreed on a deal with some medical approval still to be finalized.

Machado, in the final year of his contract, is enjoying the best season of his career, batting .315 with 24 home runs and 65 RBI’s.

The (43-52) Toronto Blue Jays host the (28-69) Baltimore Orioles Friday to begin a six-game homestand.

The Jays are a whopping 14 1/2 games behind Seattle for the last wild-card spot.

The Mariners, who have lost their last four, are 3 1/2 ahead of Oakland for the second wild-card berth.

 

GOLF:

The 147th Open Championship begins Thursday at Carnoustie (Scotland).

Canadian Adam Hadwin tees off at 1:03AM PT, while Tiger Woods starts his opening round at 7:21AM.

World No. 1 Dustin Johnson is the favorite while Jordan Spieth is the defending champ.

 

PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

The seventh annual Prince George Cougars Alumni Hospital Charity Golf Tournament will be featured Friday and Saturday.

The Cougars, the PG Cougars Alumni Association and the Spirit of the North Healthcare Foundation have teamed up to raise just shy of $400,000 towards healthcare in Northern B.C. over the past six years, including a record-breaking $105,000 in 2017.

All proceeds from this weekend’s tournament will complete the Spirit of the North’s Regional Cardiac Strategy for UHNBC.

An Alumni Meet & Greet, which includes an autograph session, will be held Friday from 4-5 p.m. with the golf to follow on Saturday at the PG Golf and Curling Club.

Confirmed alumni for this year’s tournament include Eric Brewer (1995-1998), Chase Witala (2010-2016), Nick Drazenovic (2002-2007), and Josh Anderson (2013-2018).

 

BC SUMMER GAMES:

The BC Summer Games start with opening ceremonies Thursday night in Cowichan.

Competition runs Friday to Sunday.
