–The Prince George Cougars crushed the Vancouver Giants 6-1 to halt a 4 game losing skid and finish 4-4 on an eight game home-stand. 12 different Cougars earned at least one point. Haydn Hopkins notched three assists while Cal Babych and Chase Witala each scored twice. The Cougars went 2 for 7 on the power play before 2,263 fans at CN Centre. The 9-13 Giants, who won the Tuesday game against P.G. 6-4, went 0 for 4 with the man advantage. Ty Edmonds was sharp with 24 saves as the Cats outshot Vancouver 33-25. The 12-12 Cougars are tied with the 10-10-2-2 Kamloops Blazers for 5th in the WHL Western Conference. Prince George will visit Kamloops Friday and Vancouver Saturday before returning home to face Regina on Wednesday.

–The P.G. Cougars have added 19-year-old defenceman Kirk Bear (Whitewood, SK) to their roster. Bear (6’3”, 197 pounds) started the 2014-15 season with the Melville Millionaires of the SJHL. In 23 games with Melville, Bear had two goals, eight assists and 41 penalty minutes. Last season Bear dressed in 35 games with the Red Deer Rebels where he registered 29 penalty minutes and was a -3. In conjunction with this transaction, the Cougars have sent 17-year-old defenceman Kobe Eagletail to the Banff Bears of the Heritage Junior Hockey League.

–The Chilliwack Chiefs went 4 for 8 on the power play as they blasted the Prince George Spruce Kings 5-1. P.G. was held to just 11 shots in the game while the Chiefs had 28 on Jesse Jenks before 2,362 fans in Chilliwack. The 14-9-0-2 Spruce Kings lead the BCHL Mainland Division by three points over Chilliwack and by four over the Langley Rivermen. The 13-7-0-1 Chiefs have played four less games than Prince George. The Spruce Kings have their next eight games at the P.G. Coliseum starting Friday against the 11-7-1-2 Alberni Valley Bulldogs. They don’t play another road game until Dec 18th in Langley.

–Six teams compete in the P.G. Midget Tier 2 tournament Friday to Sunday at the Kin Centre. There are also games at CN Centre and the Coliseum.

–The UNBC Timberwolves host the Mount Royal Cougars in their Canada West basketball home openers. Tip-off at the Northern Sport Centre will be Friday at 6pm (women) and 8pm (men) with the rematch Saturday at 5 and 7pm. UNBC is 0-4 in both divisions. Mount Royal is 1-3 in the women’s standings and 2-2 in men’s action.

–The Duchess Park Condors finished 12th out of 16 with an overall 1-4 record at the BC Boys Double A Soccer Championship in Burnaby. Duchess lost 4-1 to Matthew McNair in the game that determined 11th and 12th. In earlier action, the Condors fell 1-0 to Brooks and 4-2 to Brookswood, then beat David Thompson 4-0 before dropping a 4-1 decision Mark Isfeld.

–College Heights 1, College Heights 2, Duchess Park and DP Todd all represent Prince George at the 2014 Junior Boys Volleyball Provincial Championship in Kelowna. Play begins today and continue through Saturday.
