LACROSSE:

The Prince George Posse won their first three games at the Provincial Midget ‘B’ lacrosse Championship in Burnaby.

P.G. outscored host Burnaby 5-1, Ridge Meadows 11-4 and Penticton 8-7.

Semi-finals go tonight with Medal games set for Sunday.

The PG Senior Lacrosse champion Westwood Pub Devils have qualified for the senior C provincial championship August 10th to 12th in the Lower Mainland.

The Devils won the best-of-five final 3-1 over the RPR Mechanical/J.R. Construction Bandits after a 9-6 victory in Game Four.

The (47-55) Blue Jays are 1-0 on a 10-game road trip that continues tonight and Sunday in Chicago against the (36-67) White Sox.

The Jays will also face Oakland and Seattle before returning home to meet Boston on August 7th.

The non-waiver MLB trade deadline is Tuesday.

 

GOLF:

American Kevin Tway, at 13-under 131, has a one-shot lead entering the third round of the RBC Canadian Open at Glen Abbey in Oakville, Ontario.

World #1 Dustin Johnson trails by three while top Canadian Nick Taylor of Abbotsford is four strokes from the top.

Pat Fletcher (in 1954) is the last Canadian to win the tournament.

 

NITRO:

The Big Bux Race is this weekend at Nitro Motorsports Park (9285 Raceway).

Qualifying and eliminations start at 10AM today and Sunday.

The field will include about 100 Race Cars and 20 Junior Dragsters.

 

NHL:

The Washington Capitals have re-signed forward Tom Wilson to a six-year contract worth $31 million.

 

HOCKEY CANADA:

Hockey Canada’s World Junior Showcase starts today and runs until August 4th in Kamloops.

Former Prince George Cougars forward Justin Almeida of the Moose Jaw Warriors withdrew from the tournament due to an injury.

Teams competing are from Canada, the United States, Finland, and Sweden.

 

VOLLEYBALL:

Prince George will host the TRU WolfPack of Kamloops preseason men’s volleyball training camp in late August.

Duchess Park grad Ryan Hampe will be entering his first season with the team.

“This will be similar to what the BC Lions do in Kamloops. We will get the guys together and begin to prepare for the season,” said TRU head coach Pat Hennelly in a news release.
