LACROSSE:

PRINCE GEORGE KNOCKED OFF OCEANSIDE 5-3 IN THE PROVINCIAL MIDGET B LACROSSE GOLD MEDAL GAME TODAY.

EARLIER STORY:

The Prince George Posse beat Cowichan Valley 6-3 in the semi-finals at the Provincial Midget ‘B’ lacrosse Championship in Burnaby.

Prince George advances to the gold medal game today against Oceanside.

The Posse went 4-0 in the round robin outscoring host Burnaby 5-1, Ridge Meadows 11-4, Penticton 8-7 and Oceanside 7-2.

The PG Senior Lacrosse champion Westwood Pub Devils have qualified for the senior C provincial championship August 10th to 12th in the Lower Mainland.

The Devils won the best-of-five final 3-1 over the RPR Mechanical/J.R. Construction Bandits after a 9-6 victory in Game Four.

The 2-3 BC Lions play their next game Saturday when they visit Calgary.

MLB:

The (47-56) Blue Jays are 1-1 on a 10-game road trip that continues today in Chicago against the (37-67) White Sox.

The Jays will also face Oakland and Seattle before returning home to meet Boston on August 7th.

The non-waiver MLB trade deadline is Tuesday.

 

GOLF:

World #1 Dustin Johnson Dustin Johnson is one of four co-leaders entering the final round of the RBC Canadian Open at Glen Abbey in Oakville, Ontario.

Johnson, Kevin Tway, Whee Kim and Byeong Hun An are all at 17-under 199.

Top Canadian Mackenzie Hughes is six strokes off the pace at 11-under.

Pat Fletcher (in 1954) is the last Canadian to win the tournament.

 

NITRO:

The Big Bux Race is at Nitro Motorsports Park (9285 Raceway).

Qualifying and eliminations start at 10AM today.

 

HOCKEY CANADA:

Hockey Canada’s World Junior Showcase is underway and runs until Saturday in Kamloops.

Former Prince George Cougars forward Justin Almeida of the Moose Jaw Warriors withdrew from the tournament because of an injury.

Teams competing are from Canada, the United States, Finland, and Sweden.

Prince George will host the TRU WolfPack of Kamloops preseason men’s volleyball training camp in late August.

Duchess Park grad Ryan Hampe will be entering his first season with the team.
