Prince George LTN Contracting bantam Knights won their first three games handily; 14-1 over Triangle Vancouver Island (Wednesday), 11-0 over Vancouver Community Mounties (Thursday) and 14-4 over Cloverdale today (Friday).

NATIVE FASTBALL:

The Big Guy Lake Blazers team, which includes several Prince George players, are in Regina for the Canadian Native Fastball Championships.

The Blazers start play in the senior men’s division today.

Top prize in the division is $12,000.

 

MLB:

The (49-59) Blue Jays are 3-4 on a 10-game road trip that continues tonight in Seattle.

The (63-46) Mariners are 1/2 a game behind the Oakland A’s for the last AL wild-card spot.

The A’s host the Detroit Tigers this evening.

Alouettes quarterback Johnny Manziel makes his CFL debut tonight (4:30) when Montreal hosts the Hamilton Tiger-Cats.

The 1-5 Alouettes have scored the fewest points in the league while giving up the most.

The 2-3 BC Lions play Saturday at Calgary against the 6-0 Stampeders.

HOCKEY CANADA:

Canada’s Under-18 hockey team will play an exhibition game Saturday in Red Deer against the Czech Republic prior to starting the Hlinka Gretzky Cup Monday in Edmonton against Switzerland.

The tournament runs until August 11th.

Taylor Gauthier of the Prince George Cougars is one of two goalies on the team.

There are 22 players in total, 11 of them from the WHL.

Saskatoon Blades head coach Mitch Love of Quesnel is one of the Canadian assistant coaches.

 

PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

The PG Cougars have released 20-year-old goalie Tavin Grant.

In 37 games in the 2017-18 season, Grant had a 13-17-1 record along with a 3.74 GAA and a .892 save percentage.

 

GOLF:

Joel Veenstra of Smithers tied for 51st at the Canadian Junior Boys Golf Championship in Medicine Hat.

Veenstra closed with a final round 74 Thursday to give him a score of 16-over-3oo, which was 18 shots back of the winner Chris Vandette of Quebec.
