BC BASEBALL PROVINCIALS: (in Burnaby)

(U-15 WEST BANTAM DOUBLE-A CHAMPIONSHIP IN BURNABY)

Prince George LTN Contracting bantam Knights have advanced to the semi-finals today (Saturday) against Tri-City after going 4-0 in the round robin which was capped off with a 13-11 Friday afternoon victory over Burnaby.

They won their first three games handily; 14-1 over Triangle Vancouver Island (Wednesday), 11-0 over Vancouver Community Mounties (Thursday) and 14-4 over Cloverdale (Friday morning).

(U-18 MIDGET DOUBLE-A CHAMPIONSHIP IN MISSION)

Prince George Surg Med Knights have won their first two games: 13-0 over Kamloops (Friday) and 12-6 over Ridge Meadows (Thursday).

The winner of the 10-team tournament advances to the regional midget championship Aug. 12-13 in Fremont, California.

NATIVE FASTBALL:

The Big Guy Lake Blazers team, which includes several Prince George players, are in Regina for the Canadian Native Fastball Championships.

The tournament concludes Sunday.

Top prize in the senior men’s division is $12,000.

 

MLB:

The (50-59) Blue Jays are 4-4 on a 10-game road trip that continues tonight in Seattle.

The (63-47) Mariners are a game-and-a-half behind the Oakland A’s for the last AL wild-card spot.

HOCKEY CANADA:

Canada’s Under-18 hockey team will play an exhibition game tonight in Red Deer against the Czech Republic prior to starting the Hlinka Gretzky Cup Monday in Edmonton against Switzerland.

The tournament runs until August 11th.

Taylor Gauthier of the Prince George Cougars is one of two goalies on the team.

There are 22 players in total, 11 of them from the WHL.

Saskatoon Blades head coach Mitch Love of Quesnel is one of the Canadian assistant coaches.
