The Prince George Cougars are 13-13 after they split their two weekend road games. The Cougars followed up a 5-2 loss Friday in Kamloops with a 4-3 victory Saturday in Vancouver. Zach Pochiro scored his second goal of the game unassisted with just 72 seconds left in the third period against the Giants. Brad Morrison added a goal and an assist for the Cougars who are 6-0 in one goal games. Prince George is 7th in the WHL Western Conference, a point behind Spokane and Kamloops, two back of Tri-City and one ahead of Portland. The Cougars host the 13-10-1 Regina Pats on Wednesday.

–The Prince George Spruce Kings have slipped to 2nd in the BCHL Mainland Division a point behind the Chilliwack Chiefs. The Chiefs moved ahead after a 3-2 victory over the Salmon Arm Silverbacks. Steven Jandric of Prince George, a call-up from the Cariboo Cougars, scored one of the goals for Salmon Arm. The 14-10-0-2 Spruce Kings, coming off Friday’s 4-3 loss to the Alberni Valley Bulldogs, host the 13-6-0-5 West Kelowna Warriors Tuesday and the 9-13-1-4 Coquitlam Express Friday and Saturday.

–The Prince George Northland Dodge Northern Cougars Female Major Midget hockey team had two wins and a loss in three games against the West Coast Avalanche in Coquitlam. The Northern Cougars won 3-1, lost 6-1 and won 5-3 to improve their league leading record (in the BCFMAAA) to 18-3. That one loss snapped a 15-game win streak. Next action for the P.G. Female midgets will be the Notre Dame Tournament in Wilcox, Saskatchewan mid December. Next home games are against the Vancouver Island Hurricanes Dec. 19 – 21 at Kin 1. Then it’s off to the Mac’s Tournament in Calgary over the Christmas break.

–The 15-2-1 Major Midget leading Cariboo Cougars return to action when they host the 13-4-1 Okanagan Rockets Saturday at 7:15pm and Sunday at 11:30am at Kin 1.

-–In Canada West basketball, the Mount Royal Cougars beat the UNBC Timberwolves Saturday at the Northern Sport Centre. Mount Royal outscored the UNBC men 77-69 before 415 fans to get a split of the doubleheader. The Timberwolves won Friday 71-60. The Cougars knocked off the Lady Timberwolves 58-52 to sweep the double as Mount Royal took the Friday match-up 60-59. UNBC will host UBCO Friday at 6 and 8pm and Saturday at 5 and 7pm in their final league games in 2014. The T-wolves are 1-5 in the men’s division and 0-6 in the women’s standings.

–College Heights 1 placed 5th out of 24 teams at the Provincial Junior Boys Volleyball Championship in West Kelowna. College Heights 1, led by second team all-star setter Graham Walkey, finished with an overall 6-1 record, the only loss against MEI (2-0) in the quarter-finals. Duchess Park ended up 18th, College Heights 2 came 19th and D.P. Todd settled for 22nd.

-–Prince George Blizzard speed skater Nicolas Hiller was part of the Canadian team that placed second in the Men’s Team Sprint Event at the ISU Junior Regional long track World Cup in Calgary. Nicolas also placed 8th in the 3000m and 11th in the 1500m. Meanwhile, in the Can-Am International Long Track Meet also in Calgary, Hiller’s sister Carolina took gold in the Ladies Mass Start Long Distance (9 lap) event. Carolina also finished in the top ten three times
and the top twenty three times in her other races. She set personal best times in all of her distances (500m, 1000m, 15000m, and 3000m). Alison Desmarais of
Vanderhoof ended up in the top twelve three times and the top twenty twice.

-–Five members of the North Capital Judo Club captured two gold, three silver and a bronze for a total of six medals at the Steveston Judo Tournament. Gold
went to Asher Young (U12 Junior Boys -32kg) and Braeden Davis (U18 Cadet Novice Men -66kg). Silver was earned by Lochlan Young (U14 Junior Boys -50kg) Nicolas Richards (U16 Juvenile Men -66kg) and Braeden Davis (U21 Junior Men Novice -66kg). Bronze went to Maxwell Young (U16 Juvenile Men -50kg).
