TODD HARKINS:

Former Prince George Cougars general manager Todd Harkins has been hired by the West Van Hockey Academy as their Director of Program Development and Head Coach of the Bantam Varsity team.

Harkins was let go by the Cougars in March after four seasons as GM.

Prior to joining Prince George, Harkins was the Hockey Director at the North Shore Winter Club for 12 years.

 

NHL:

Forward Brady Tkachuk has signed a three-year, entry-level contract with the Ottawa Senators.

The son of former NHL forward Keith Tkachuk and the brother of Calgary Flames winger Matthew Tkachuk was selected fourth overall by the Senators in the first round of this year’s NHL draft in June.

Tkachuk led Boston University with 23 assists in his first season.

 

MLB:

Kansas City Royals  3  Toronto Blue Jays  1

Start of a seven-game road trip for the (53-65) Blue Jays, who have three more games in KC followed by three this weekend at Yankee Stadium.

Oakland A’s  7  Seattle Mariners  6

The loss ended the four-game win streak for the (69-51) Mariners, who are 2 1/2 games behind the A’s for the final AL wild-card spot.

The A’s now have an MLB-best record of 36-12 since June 16.

Same teams play again tonight and Wednesday in Oakland.

 

BASEBALL:

The Prince George Surg Med Knights will represent BC at the 18-U Western Canadian AA baseball championship.

The Knights repeated as Baseball BC Midget Double-A champions after a convincing 13-4 triumph over Ladner in the provincial final.

Meanwhile, the PG U-15 AA Knights placed second out of three teams at the Baseball BC Provincials dropping the final 2-1 against Tri-City.

 

NBA:

The Houston Rockets have confirmed they have officially signed Carmelo Anthony to a one-year, $2.4 million contract.

The 34-year-old Anthony averaged a career-low 16.2 points in 78 games last season with the Oklahoma City Thunder.
