The (54-65) Blue Jays are 1-1 on a seven-game road trip.

Toronto plays tonight and Thursday in KC followed by three this weekend at Yankee Stadium.

Blue Jays outfielder Curtis Granderson has reportedly cleared trade waivers, meaning he is eligible to be dealt to any team this month.

The 37-year-old Granderson is batting .231 with 10 homers in 95 games with Toronto this year.

Oakland A’s  3  Seattle Mariners  2

The Mariners reinstated infielder Robinson Cano after he served an 80-game suspension.

Cano went 1-for-4 in the loss.

The (69-52) Mariners slip 3 1/2 games behind the A’s for the final AL wild-card spot.

The A’s have an MLB-best record of 37-12 since June 16 and are just a game back of AL West leading Houston.

Same teams play again this afternoon in Oakland.

A baseball signed by 11 of the 12 members of the inaugural Baseball Hall of Fame class of 1939, including Babe Ruth, Ty Cobb, and Cy Young has sold for a record $623,369.

The previous record for a signed baseball was $345,000 set in 2013 for a Ruth-Lou Gehrig ball.

The Prince George Surg Med Knights are gearing up to represent BC at the 18-U Western Canadian AA baseball championship.

The Knights repeated as Baseball BC Midget Double-A champions after a 13-4 victory over Ladner in the provincial final.

 

TODD HARKINS:

The West Van Hockey Academy has hired former Prince George Cougars general manager Todd Harkins as their Director of Program Development and Head Coach of the Bantam Varsity team.

Harkins was released by the Cougars in March after six seasons with the team, the last four as GM.

Prior to joining Prince George, Harkins spent 12 years as Hockey Director at the North Shore Winter Club.

 

NHL:

Edmonton Oilers defenceman Andrej Sekera is out indefinitely.

The 32-year-old Sekera underwent surgery for a torn Achilles tendon that happened during off-season training.

The Nashville Predators have signed defenceman Ryan Ellis to an eight-year contract extension.

The deal, which begins in the 2019-20 season, is worth $50 million.
