MLB:

Curtis Granderson hit the 10th grand slam of his career for the (55-65) Blue Jays who are 2-1 on a seven-game road trip.

Toronto plays again tonight in KC followed by three games this weekend at Yankee Stadium.

Seattle Mariners  2  Oakland A’s  0  (12 innings)

The (70-52) Mariners are two-and-a-half games behind Oakland for the final AL wild-card spot.

Seattle will start a six-game homestand Friday against the LA Dodgers.

The A’s have an MLB-best record of 37-13 since June 16.

Oakland is just two games back of AL West leading Houston.

 

WESTERN CANADIAN BASEBALL:

The BC-champion PG Surg Med Knights compete at the Western Canadian U-18 Double-A baseball championship in La Broquerie, Manitoba.

The Knights start the five-team round-robin Friday.

Playoff games will be held on Sunday.

The Prince George Grays are entered at the Western Canadian Senior Double-A baseball championship in Moose Jaw.

The Grays play two round robin games on both Friday and Saturday in the five-team tournament.

 

SIMON FRASER GOLF:

The men’s Simon Fraser has changed from a 54-hole tournament to 36 at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club.

86 golfers in the field, including defending champion Tyler Robertson, will tee off Saturday afternoon at 12:30 with a shotgun start.

The 21-year-old Robertson won last year’s three round Simon Fraser by two strokes over Reagan Brown.

The final round is set for Sunday.

Meanwhile, Natasha Kozlowski won the women’s Simon Fraser with a 3-over-par 147 score (rounds of 74 and 73).

 

NHL:

The Vancouver Canucks plan to talk contract extension with Brock Boeser’s agent next week.

The Canucks are hoping to have a long-term deal in place with their 2015 first-round pick before he becomes a restricted free agent in July of next year.

Boeser notched 55 points (29 goals) in 62 games in his rookie season with Vancouver.

 

CFL:

Montreal Alouettes quarterback Johnny Manziel is in concussion protocol.

He missed his second straight practice on Wednesday.

Manziel is not expected to start the Als game Saturday night against the Eskimos in Edmonton.
