WESTERN CANADIAN BASEBALL:

The BC-champion Prince George Surg Med Knights won their first game at the Western Canadian Midget 18U
Double-A baseball championship in La Broquerie, Manitoba.

The Knights erased a 5-0 deficit by scoring twice in the 6th and four runs in the 7th and final inning to beat Alberta (Beaumont Bosox) 6-5.

P.G. continues the five-team round robin today against Manitoba (Portage Pirates) and tonight vs. Saskatchewan (Northwest Prairie Pirates of Lloydminster).

They also face the host team (Carillion Saints) on Sunday.

The top two teams will advance to Sunday’s final.

The Prince George Grays are 0-2 at the Western Canadian Senior Double-A baseball championship in Moose Jaw.

The Grays lost 14-8 against the Saskatoon Outlaws and 9-6 against the Moose Jaw Padres.

Prince George has two more round-robin games (today against St. James A’s of Manitoba and Sunday vs. Border All-Stars) in the five-team tournament.

The top two teams qualify for the final on Sunday.

 

MLB:

New York Yankees  7  Toronto Blue Jays  5

The (55-67) Blue Jays are 2-3 on a seven-game road trip.

Los Angeles Dodgers  11  Seattle Mariners  1

The (70-53) Mariners are 3 1/2 games behind Oakland for the final AL wild-card spot.

The A’s have an MLB-best record of 38-13 since June 16.

In the AL West, Houston leads Oakland by one game and Seattle by 4 1/2.


WHL-HAY:

Taking Note (Gregg Drinnan) of Kamloops is reporting that former Kamloops coach Don Hay may be joining the Portland Winterhawks as an assistant coach.

Hay has more regular-season and playoff wins than any head coach in WHL history.

 

PG COUGARS:

The Prince George Cougars will open their 2018 Training Camp on Friday and it will continue until the evening of Wednesday, August 29th, with the Cougars annual Black versus White game, which is free to the public.

The six-day Training Camp at CN Centre will involve daily practices, off-ice workouts and scrimmages.

 

PG SPRUCE KINGS:

The Prince George Spruce Kings will play a pair of BCHL exhibition games against the Merritt Centennials.

The two teams meet Wednesday August 29th in Prince George and on Friday, August 31st in Merritt.

The Spruce Kings open their regular season at home on Friday, September 7th against the Chilliwack Chiefs.

 

PGARA:

The Tri-City Street Stock Invitational will be featured tonight at PGARA starting with time trials at 6.

The PGARA Street Stock Invitational follows Sunday afternoon beginning with time trials at 1.

 

SIMON FRASER GOLF:

The 36-hole men’s Simon Fraser tees off today and Sunday at the Prince George Golf and Curling Club.

86 golfers are in the field, including defending champion Tyler Robertson.

The 21-year-old Robertson won last year’s three round Simon Fraser by two strokes over Reagan Brown.
