Top-ranked Japan improves to 3-0 while Canada drops to 2-1.

Pitcher Amanda Asay of Prince George did not play in the game for Canada.

The 30-year-old Asay picked up the win in Canada’s 10-7 victory over Cuba on Thursday.

She allowed seven runs, four of them earned, in five innings as the Canadian team rallied from an early 7-1 deficit.

Canada will play its fourth round robin game in the 12-team tournament today (3PM Pacific) against Australia before concluding the round robin Sunday (11AM) against the Dominican Republic.

PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

The Prince George Cougars have day two of their 2018 Training Camp today at the CN Centre.

The Cougars have inter-squad games today at 2:30 and 4:30.

The Cats have over 60 players, including 20 veterans, at the six-day Camp, which will continue until Wednesday with the Cougars annual Black versus White game (free admission).

The Cougars open their pre-season schedule on Friday in Kamloops.

 

PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

The Prince George Spruce Kings began their training camp Friday at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena (RMCA).

The Spruce Kings will have intra-squad games tonight at 7 and Sunday morning at 10.

The 2018 BCHL finalists have 14 returning players.

The Spruce Kings will play a pair of exhibition games against the Merritt Centennials; Wednesday in Prince George and Friday in Merritt.

The Spruce Kings start their BCHL regular season on Friday, September 7th when they host the reigning RBC Cup-champion Chilliwack Chiefs.

SOCCER:

The start of the men’s soccer season for the UNBC Timberwolves has been postponed because of the poor air quality in Prince George.

UNBC was scheduled to host the Victoria Vikes in Canada West regular season action Friday and tonight
but those games will now be played at a later date.

With no university soccer this weekend, the official re-opening of Masich Place Stadium has been moved to Friday, September 21st.

 

B.C. JUVENILE GOLF:

Natasha Kozlowski of Prince George tied for ninth in a field of 15 at the BC Juvenile Girls’ golf championship in Kelowna.

The 16-year-old Kozlowski (who won the Ladies Simon Fraser in Prince George this month) finished the 54-hole tournament with a (24-over) 243 total, which was 17 shots off the pace.

She closed with an 80 following earlier rounds of 84 and 79.

Last month, Kozlowski placed 31st at the BC Women’s Amateur Championship in Golden and 24th in the Junior Girl’s Provincial Championship in Kimberley.
