UPDATE AT 1PM: CANADA WHIPPED THE DOMINICAN REPUBLIC TODAY (SUNDAY) 18-1 TO FINISH THE ROUND ROBIN 4-1. AMANDA ASAY OF PG DID NOT PLAY.

Canada improves its record to 3-1.

Pitcher Amanda Asay of Prince George did not play in the game.

The 30-year-old Asay picked up the win in Canada’s 10-7 victory over Cuba on Thursday.

She allowed seven runs, four of them earned, in five innings as the Canadian team rallied from an early 7-1 deficit.

Canada will play its fifth and final round robin game in the 12-team tournament today (Sunday) against the
Dominican Republic.

Playoffs start Tuesday.


MLB:

The (74-56) Mariners are 2-0 on a nine-game road trip.

PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

This is day three of the Prince George Cougars 2018 Training Camp at the CN Centre.

The Cougars have intra-squad games today (Sunday) at 4 and 6 PM.

The Cats have over 60 players, including 20 veterans, at the six-day Camp, which will continue until Wednesday with the Cougars annual Black versus White game (free admission).

The Cougars open their pre-season schedule on Friday in Kamloops.

They begin their WHL season on Friday, September 21st in Victoria with their home opener a week later on the 28th against Kelowna.

PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

The Prince George Spruce Kings began their training camp Friday at the Rolling Mix Concrete Arena (RMCA).

The Spruce Kings will have an intra-squad games today (Sunday) at 10AM.

The 2018 BCHL finalists have 14 returning players.

The Spruce Kings will play a pair of exhibition games against the Merritt Centennials; Wednesday in Prince George and Friday in Merritt.

The Spruce Kings start their BCHL regular season on Friday, September 7th when they host the reigning RBC Cup-champion Chilliwack Chiefs.

 

SOCCER:

The start of the men’s soccer season for the UNBC Timberwolves was postponed because of the poor air quality in Prince George.

UNBC was scheduled to host the Victoria Vikes in Canada West regular season action Friday and Saturday but
those games will now be played at a later date.

The Timberwolves will host Trinity Western in men’s soccer on September 7th and 8th at 6PM.

The UNBC women’s soccer team starts its regular season on September 7th at UBC Okanagan.

The Timberwolves will play their home games this year at Masich Place Stadium which will hold its official re-opening on Friday, September 21st just prior to the UNBC men hosting Lethbridge.

 

B.C. JUVENILE GOLF:

Natasha Kozlowski of Prince George tied for ninth in a field of 15 at the BC Juvenile Girls’ golf championship in Kelowna.

The 16-year-old Kozlowski (who won the Ladies Simon Fraser in Prince George this month) finished the 54-hole tournament with a (24-over) 243 total, which was 17 shots off the pace.

She closed with an 80 following earlier rounds of 84 and 79.

Last month, Kozlowski placed 31st at the BC Women’s Amateur Championship in Golden and 24th in the Junior Girl’s Provincial Championship in Kimberley.
