PG YMCA receives nearly $1,400 donation

Proceeds from the collected recyclables at Cariboo Rocks the North are being donated to the Prince George YMCA.

The donation totals $1,370.55 and is part of a Prince George Recycling program in conjunction with the City of Prince George, CN Centre, and Waste Management.

“It’s an existing program that they’ve had in place for over two years so, in conjunction, Waste Management has been donating services to charitable events,” explains Waste Management District Manager Scott Dobie.

“About a year ago, through discussions with Prince George Recycling, it was just a marriage made in heaven as far as we have an outlet that we can directly benefit the community.”

Manager of Philanthropy, Marketing & Camps with the PG YMCA Stephanie Mikalishen-Deol says the money will go into their Strong Kids Campaign program.

“We have a goal to raise $60,000 which is going to support 210 children and youth here in Prince George to participate in YMCA camps and programs.”

Mikalishen-Deol believes they are currently between the $40,000 and $45,000 mark for their fiscal year, which is over at the end of August. As of September 1st, they will have the same goal for the next year.

An upcoming event at the Prince George Civic Centre for Labour Day will follow suit, donating recycling and garbage for the YMCA.
