Decision on Trans Mountain Pipeline will impact PG economy: PG Chamber

The Federal Court of Appeal overturning approval on the Trans Mountain Pipeline expansion will impact our local economy, according to the Prince George Chamber of Commerce.

“We have a tremendous manufacturing component to our economy here in Prince George and I think businesses that have proven their worth in construction processes similar to this in the past, whether through the supply chain or through warehousing or through the development of tools and equipment for that project, I think those impacts are going to be felt here,” says Chamber CEO Todd Corrigall.

Corrigall recommends business owners engage with the local chambers so their needs can be advocated for. Even with larger projects like the Trans Mountain Pipeline, that impact will be felt within the city and region.

“Everything has a trickle-down economic effect and it’s really important to note that as these projects move forward, whether they be pipelines, resource development, or softwood lumber, they all have trickle-down effects for our economy in Prince George and through the region.”

The Federal Court of Appeal overturned the National Energy Board’s approval Thursday morning citing insufficient consultation with Indigenous and environmental groups.
