Most evacuees in PG have gone home

Records at the Prince George Emergency Reception Centre show more than two-thirds of evacuees have returned home as wildfire conditions improve. The City peaked at hosting just over 3,000.

Because of this, the City continues to reduce operating hours at the Emergency Reception Centre at the CN Centre. It will be closed for the Labour Day long weekend.

The centre is moving on Tuesday to the second floor of the Kin Centre complex, also located at Exhibition Park. It will be open from 9am to 1pm on Tuesday and Friday. New evacuees needing to register outside of those days and hours can contact the Service Centre at city hall.

Smokey Skies advisories continue to change from day to day across the north. According to Northern Health, community members should be advised to return home as air quality can vary greatly, and a home environment may be the healthiest.

The Canadian Red Cross is also providing teams to assist with the recovery of communities that have been under either an evacuation order or alert.

Updated information for evacuees in PG will continue to be available on the City’s wildfire evacuation web page.
