UNBC TIMBERWOLVES:

A successful weekend for the UNBC Timberwolves in Canada West Soccer. The Lady Timberwolves beat Regina
3-1 Friday and later rallied with two late goals to tie Saskatchewan 2-2 Sunday. The UNBC won their game in Saskatoon 3-0 over Saskatchewan on Sunday.

Sarah Zuccaro tied the game in the 90th minute, four minutes after Sonja Neitsch got UNBC on the board.

The 1-1-2 Lady Timberwolves visit Fraser Valley Friday night at 5:30 and Trinity Western Saturday night at 5 before their next home game on Friday, September 28th at against UBC.

(CANADA WEST MEN’S SOCCER)

UNBC Timberwolves  3  Saskatchewan Huskies  0  (Sunday)

Francesco Bartolillo scored twice and set up the other goal from Conrad Rowlands as the UNBC men picked up their first win of the season.

The 1-1-2 UNBC men’s soccer team will host the Lethbridge Pronghorns Friday at 6 p.m. and the Calgary Dinos Sunday at noon.

The official re-opening of Masich Place Stadium will take place just prior to the Lethbridge game.

 

PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS: (BCHL)

The Prince George Spruce Kings lead the BCHL with a perfect 4-0 record after a sweep of the Coquitlam Express,
5-3 Friday and 3-0 Saturday. Ben Brar scored twice in each game.

Bradley Cooper, in his first start of the season, earned the shutout as P.G. outshot Coquitlam 47-19 before 743 fans at the RMCA.

Patrick Cozzi snapped a 3-3 tie with 3:56 left in the third in front of 731 fans.

The Spruce Kings play West Kelowna Thursday afternoon at 1:30 and Penticton Friday at 4 p.m. at the BCHL Showcase in Chilliwack.

Their next home game is scheduled for October 4th against Wenatchee.

 

PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS: (WHL pre-season)

The Prince George Cougars concluded their pre-season with a 4-3 loss in overtime in a penalty-filled game against the Kamloops Blazers.

Josh Pillar scored in the first minute of overtime for the Blazers who never trailed.

Prince George defenceman Joel Lakusta tied the game at 3 with 2:33 left in the 3rd before 1,449 fans at CN Centre.

The Blazers finished 4-1 and the Cougars 3-1-1 in the pre-season.

The PG Cougars start their regular season with back-to-back games against the Royals in Victoria on Friday and Saturday.

They will play their next three against the Rockets: Wednesday the 26th in Kelowna, Friday the 28th (home opener) and Saturday the 29th in Prince George.

 

CARIBOO COUGARS:

The Cariboo Cougars begin their 40-game BCMML regular season with home games on September 22nd and 23rd
at Kin 1.

The Major Midget Cougars entertain the Valley West Hawks Saturday (4:00 p.m.) and Sunday (10:30AM).

 

NHL:

The Winnipeg Jets have signed defenceman Josh Morrissey to a two-year deal.

The contract is worth a total of $6.3 million.

In the NL West, Colorado leads the LA Dodgers by 1/2 a game with two weeks left in the MLB season.

The Chicago Cubs are 2 1/2 in front of Milwaukee in the NL Central but the Brewers lead the first wild-card spot by three games over St. Louis and the LA Dodgers.

The Cardinals and Dodgers are tied for the 2nd and final wild-card spot with identical records of 82-68.
