PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

The 4-0 Prince George Spruce Kings are at the BCHL Showcase in Chilliwack.

The Spruce Kings play the 1-3 West Kelowna Warriors this afternoon at 1:30 and the 1-2 Penticton Vees Friday at 4PM.

Other than Prince George, the 3-0 Powell River Kings are the only other league team with a perfect record.

The Spruce Kings have scored 15 goals while allowing just five in their four home games.

PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

The Prince George Cougars are in Victoria to start their WHL regular season with back-to-back games against the Royals on Friday and Saturday.

The Cats are carrying 25 players on their roster, two goalies, eight defencemen and 15 forwards.

17 of those players ended last season with Prince George.

The Cougars will play their next three against the Rockets: Wednesday the 26th in Kelowna, Friday the 28th (home opener) and Saturday the 29th in Prince George.

The Cats finished 3-1-1 in the pre-season.

 

CARIBOO COUGARS:

The Cariboo Cougars begin their 40-game BCMML regular season with home games this weekend at Kin 1.

The Major Midget Cougars host the Valley Northwest Hawks Saturday (6PM) and Sunday (10:30AM).

 

NHL: (Exhibition)

Calgary Flames  4  Vancouver Canucks  1

The Canucks are 0-2 in pre-season play with another home exhibition game tonight against the LA Kings.

 

UNBC TIMBERWOLVES:

(Canada West Men’s Soccer)

The 1-1-2 UNBC men’s soccer team will host the 0-5-1 Lethbridge Pronghorns Friday at 6 p.m. and the 2-4 Calgary Dinos Sunday at Noon.

The official re-opening of Masich Place Stadium will take place just prior to the Lethbridge game.

The 1-1-2 Lady Timberwolves visit 0-0-2 Fraser Valley Friday night at 5:30 and 4-0 Trinity Western Saturday night at 5 before their next home game on Friday, September 28th at against UBC.

Midfielder Francesco Bartolillo of the UNBC Timberwolves is the Canada West male third star of the week.

The T-Wolves captain scored twice and added an assist in Sunday’s 3-0 victory over the Saskatchewan Huskies.

Bartolillo, a fifth-year player from Calgary, is the UNBC all-time leading goal scorer in men’s soccer with 13.

The UNBC men’s soccer team and the Victoria Vikes will play a make-up game on Thursday, September 27th in Victoria.

The game was originally scheduled in Prince George on the August 24th weekend as part of a doubleheader but was postponed due to heavy smoke.

Their first make-up game ended in a 1-1 tie on September 4th in Prince George.

JARED YOUNG

Infielder Jared Young of Prince George will travel with his family to Chicago for a special ceremony prior to the Cubs September 27th game against the Pittsburgh Pirates at Wrigley Field.

The 23-year-old Young was named this week the Chicago Cubs Minor League Player of the Year.

He batted .300 with 16 homers and 76 RBIs in 120 combined games between the Class-A South Bend Cubs and Class-A Advanced Myrtle Beach Pelicans.

 

MLB: (Just 11 days left in the regular season)

LA Dodgers  5  Colorado Rockies  2

The (85-68) Dodgers swept the three game series to increase their lead in the NL West to 2 1/2 games over the second place Rockies.

Seattle Mariners  9  Houston Astros  0

The (84-68) Mariners, with just 10 games left, are 7 games behind Oakland for the second and final AL wild-card spot.

Seattle is 5-2 on a 10-game road trip, which continues Friday in Texas.

Baltimore Orioles  2  Toronto Blue Jays  1

The (69-83) Blue Jays finished 4-5 on a nine-game road trip.

Toronto will host (85-66) the Tampa Bay Rays tonight to begin a seven-game homestand.

The Rays are 5 1/2 games out of a wild-card spot.

The Jays also entertain Houston starting Monday before wrapping up their long year in Tampa beginning on September 28th.

 

NFL:

The Cleveland Browns, who haven’t won in their last 19 regular season games, host the New York Jets tonight to begin week three of the NFL season.

The Browns are three-point favourites.
