PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

West Kelowna

Warriors  4  Prince George Spruce Kings  0

First loss of the season for the Spruce Kings who outshot the Warriors 35-22, including 15-1 in the third period.

Ex-Cariboo Cougar Mason Richey scored one of the goals for West Kelowna, who tallied once in the first and three more in the second.

The 4-1 Spruce Kings play the 2-2 Penticton Vees this afternoon at 4, also in Chilliwack.

 

PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

The Prince George Cougars start their 25th WHL regular season with back-to-back games against the Royals in Victoria tonight and Saturday.

The Cats are carrying 25 players, including 17 returnees.

The roster includes two goalies, eight defencemen and 15 forwards.

The Cougars will play their next three against the Rockets; Wednesday in Kelowna, Friday September 28th (home opener), and Saturday the 29th in Prince George.

The Cats finished 3-1-1 in the pre-season.

 

CARIBOO COUGARS:

The BC Major Midget League opens its season this weekend.

The Cariboo Cougars begin their 40-game schedule with home games against the Valley West Giants Saturday night at 6 and Sunday morning at 10:30 at Kin 1.

 

NHL: (Exhibition)

Vancouver Canucks  4  LA Kings  3  (SO)

Bo Horvat scored twice, added an assist and also tallied in the shootout.

The Canucks, 1-2 in the pre-season, play their next exhibition game Saturday in Calgary.

 

UNBC TIMBERWOLVES:

(Canada West Men’s Soccer)

The 1-1-2 UNBC men’s soccer team will host the 0-5-1 Lethbridge Pronghorns tonight at 6 and the 2-4 Calgary Dinos Sunday at Noon.

The game will be held at Masich Place Stadium, which will have its official re-opening just prior to kickoff.

The UNBC men also host the 2-4 Calgary Dinos Sunday at noon.

(Canada West Women’s Soccer)

The 1-1-2 Lady Timberwolves are on the road.

They visit 0-2-2 Fraser Valley tonight at 5:30 and 4-0 Trinity Western Saturday night at 5.

The Lady Twolves next home game will be on Friday, September 28th against UBC.

The UNBC men’s soccer team and the Victoria Vikes will play a make-up game on Thursday.

The game was originally scheduled in Prince George on the August 24th weekend as part of a doubleheader but was postponed due to heavy smoke.

Their first make-up game ended in a 1-1 tie on September 4th in Prince George.

Cleveland Browns  21  New York Jets  17

Rookie quarterback Baker Mayfield came off the bench in the second quarter to lead the Browns back from a 14-0 deficit.

Cleveland ended a 19-game winless streak, dating back to Dec. 24th, 2016, a span of 635 days.

There are 14 NFL games on Sunday, including New Orleans at Atlanta, Dallas at Seattle and the night matchup of New England at Detroit.

The Monday night game will feature Pittsburgh at Tampa Bay.

Toronto Blue Jays  9  Tampa Bay Rays  8

The Jays erased an 8-2 deficit with seven runs in the bottom of the 9th to tie the club record for their largest 9th-inning comeback.

The (70-83) Blue Jays are 1-0 on a seven-game homestand which continues tonight, Saturday and Sunday against Tampa.

Toronto will also entertain Houston starting Monday before wrapping up its long year in Tampa beginning on September 28th.

The (84-68) Seattle Mariners, with just 10 games left, are 7 1/2 games behind Oakland for the second and final AL wild-card spot.

Seattle is 5-2 on a 10-game road trip which continues tonight in Texas.
