A group of volunteers gathered today to plant over 250 trees along a trail at Cottonwood Island Nature Park.
The event, sponsored by TD Canada, happens every year in different locations around the city.
Claire Watkins, site leader for the team, said it was the best turnout she’s ever seen.
“It’s fun for me, it’s education and awareness, I love to teach people about planting trees and help put back into the environment.”
Watkins said the location was chosen because it needed “succession planting”, which is preparing for when older trees die by planting new ones.
