The Prince George Spruce Kings have completed a pair of trades. The Spruce Kings obtained 20 year old defenseman Tyler Kunz from the Lloydminster Bobcats of the AJHL in return for 19 year old forward Taylor Allan and future considerations. Kunz has 10 goals and 15 assists plus 32 penalty minutes in 30 games. The Spruce Kings have also acquired 18 year old defenseman Viktor Dombrovskiy from the Trail Smoke Eaters in exchange for 19 year old defenseman Stephen Penner and 18 year old forward Cooper Leitch. In 19 games this season, Dombrovskiy has 2 goals and 13 assists plus 9 penalty minutes. He is committed to attend Harvard University on a division 1 hockey scholarship for the 2015/2016 season and will also join fellow Spruce Kings teammates Jesse Jenks and Brogan O’Brien at the selection camp for Team Canada West, which will compete at the World Junior A Challenge.

–The P.G. Spruce Kings host Chilliwack Friday and Saturday in a match-up of the top two teams in the BCHL Mainland Division.

–Brett Connolly of Prince George scored twice, including the winner, for the Tampa Bay Lightning in a 6-3 win over the New York Rangers. It was the first two goal game in Connolly’s NHL career.

–The Prince George Cougars will be without 20-year-old forward Jari Erricson when they host the Prince Albert Raiders on Wednesday. The WHL has slapped Erricson with a two-game suspension for a cross checking major and game misconduct against the Regina Pats on November 26th. The 13-14 Cougars are tied with Seattle for 8th in the Western Conference, a point behind the Kamloops Blazers. The 13-14 Raiders are tied with Kootenay for 9th in the Eastern Conference, a point back of Moose Jaw.

–29 players, including 14 from the WHL (none from the PG Cougars), have been invited to Canada’s National Junior Team Selection Camp, starting December 11th in Toronto. The roster includes two goaltenders (Eric Comrie of Tri-City and Zach Fucale of Halifax) 10 defencemen and 17 forwards. 22 players will represent Canada at the 2015 World Junior Championship in Toronto and Montreal. The roster must be finalized by Christmas Day.

–The Major Midget Cariboo Cougars finished with a perfect 8-0 record in November, outscoring the opposition by a total of 47-7. Cariboo is in first place with a 17-2-1 record, four points ahead of the Vancouver NW Giants. The Cougars host the 1-18-1 Thompson Blazers Saturday at 7:15 p.m. and Sunday at 11:30 a.m. at Kin 1.

–The UNBC Timberwolves are 3-5 in the men’s standings and 1-7 in the women’s division as of the mid-season break in Canada West basketball. The UNBC men are tied for 4th place in the six team Explorers Division, just two points out of a playoff spot. The Lady Timberwolves are in last place. UNBC will visit MacEwan Jan 9 and 10 with its next league home games against TRU Jan 16 and 17.

–Seven Prince George high school volleyball teams concluded their season by competing at the Provincials. Duchess Park placed 4th and College Heights 13th out of 16 at the Girls Triple A in Parksville. D.P. Todd finished 7th at the Girls Double A in Mill Bay; D.P. Todd was 6th and College Heights 8th at the Boys Double A in Langley; Cedars Christian wound up 8th at the Girls A in Kelowna and PGSS was 20th out of 20 at the Boys Triple A in Langley.

–PG Inner City fighter Jag Seehra earned the Golden Boy award as the top boxer of the 75th Golden Gloves in Cloverdale. Seehra is a five-time Golden Gloves champion.
