Gauthier cool as Ice

Taylor Gauthier was at his best with a 45-save performance to lead the Prince George Cougars to a 2-1 overtime victory over the Kootenay Ice.

Kootenay outshot PG 46-27, including 21-5 in the third period, before 2,117 fans Sunday in Cranbrook.

Ilijah Colina scored the winner at 33 seconds of overtime.

Jackson Leppard, with his first goal of the season, put Prince George on the board in the middle period.

Kootenay’s Peyton Krebs tied it early in the third, and the home team had the only three power-plays of the game, going zero-for-three (0/3).

Both teams were playing their third game in as many days.

The 4-5-0-1 Cougars earned four out of a possible six points on their Central Division road trip.

They lost 4-1 Friday in Medicine Hat and won 6-5 in a shootout Saturday in Lethbridge.

Prince George is third in the BC Division, four points ahead of the 2-6-0-1 Kamloops Blazers and five in front of the 2-9 Kelowna Rockets.

The Cougars host the Swift Current Broncos on Sunday, October 21st in their next game.

In other action, the (7-1) Victoria Royals suffered their first loss, dropping a 3-2 Sunday afternoon decision to the (8-1-1) Vancouver Giants.
