Franco Kouagnia (#10) of the UNBC Timberwolves men’s basketball team has been named the Canada West 2nd star of the week. Kouagnia helped UNBC to a pair of wins over the UBC Okanagan Heat. He scored 20 points and added 11 rebounds in an 83-74 victory and the next day hooped 21 points and 14 rebounds in a 69-63 triumph. Kouagnia led the Timberwolves to their first two-win weekend since 2012. The UNBC men are 3-5, just two points out of a playoff spot.
–Jared Rathjen, who is from Prince George, is the odd man out. The P.G. Cougars placed the 20-year-old goalie on waivers to get the club down to the WHL limit of three overage players. The Cougars host the Prince Albert Raiders tonight. Both teams are 13-14.
–Two Cariboo Cougars, goalie Dorrin Luding of Prince George, and forward Justin Almeida of Kitimat, are among 20 players named to the Male Under 16 BC hockey team that will compete at the Canada Winter Games in February in Prince George. Team BC will be looking for back to back gold medals at the Canada Winter Games. The competition will be in the second week of the Winter games starting on February 22nd.
–The Prince George Spruce Kings continue an 8-game homestand Friday and Saturday when they host the Chilliwack Chiefs.
