Zaga’s applying for cannabis retail license

A Prince George hemp store is hoping to apply for a cannabis retail license in the city.

Ginny Burnnett, owner of Zaga’s Hemp Shop, has applied to the province and will be able to apply with the city after she is approved. The BC government has approved 62 applications so far, including Prince George’s Grasshopper Retail Inc.

Burnnett expected the city would take 3-4 months to finalize re-zoning of the business, which needs to be approved before cannabis licenses can even be looked at.

She didn’t think city council could have done anything better in the process.

“I think the city is doing the best they can, and I think there were some counsellors that were still afraid of it and don’t understand it, but I’m happy we aren’t going the way of Quesnel, where they don’t have it at all.”

“Hopefully it means more business and it means not having to hide out in a closet and smoke pot anymore. Hopefully people will be more open about it and some other people will be more accepting about it,” said Burnett.
