Major winter sporting event receives financial boost from Regional District of Fraser-Fort George

The Regional District of Fraser-Fort George is lending a helping hand to the 2019 World Para-Nordic Championships coming to Prince George.

The event is taking place from February 15th to 24th from the Otway Nordic Centre.

The decision to commit $50,000 was a no-brainer.

“You know we’re building on lots of things and it’s great these things are coming to Prince George and the regional district has always tried to support it,” said Terry Burgess, Vice-Chair.

He believes it was even more crucial for the RDFFG to get behind it since the City of Prince George has shown the same support back to them.

“We like to support Prince George because Prince George supports us and they help our rural areas grow so its a win-win situation.”

Over 140 athletes from 20 different countries will compete at the event.

The RDFFG also recognized a trio of retired directors who included Burgess (14 years), Jennette Townsend (19 years), and former PG City Councillor Albert Koehler.
