PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

Tri-City Americans  4  Prince George Cougars  3 (Shootout)

The Americans erased a 3-1 deficit by scoring twice in the third and adding the only two goals in the shootout.

Cole Moberg and Josh Maser tallied to give the Cougars a 2-0 lead after one before 2,130 fans at CN Centre.

Rhett Rhinehart scored with the man advantage in the second for the Cats, but P.G. went just 1/6 on the power

play, including a five-minute opportunity late in the first.

The Cougars outshot the Americans for the second straight night (33-29) but Tri-City swept the doubleheader to run its win streak to four.

Prince George is third in the BC Division, two points ahead of the 5-10 Kelowna Rockets and five points in front of the 3-6-0-1 Kamloops Blazers.

The 5-6-0-2 Cougars visit the Kelowna on Saturday.

Beck Warm made 35 saves for the Americans who scored three unanswered goals in the third period before 2,162 fans at the CN Centre.

 

PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

(BCHL)

The 10-5-0-1 Prince George Spruce Kings are on the road for the second straight weekend.

They visit 7-6-3-1 Trail Friday, 8-6-2 Wenatchee Saturday, and 8-6-1 Salmon Arm Sunday.

The Spruce Kings are third in the Mainland Division, four points behind the Coquitlam Express and five back of the Chilliwack Chiefs.

Prince George has two games in hand on both Coquitlam and Chilliwack.

Forward Ben Brar is the BCHL Player of the Week after posting six points, including four goals, in three games.

The 19-year-old Brar leads the Spruce Kings with 16 points in 16 games and is third in the league with 11 goals.

 

NHL: (Road teams won all four Wednesday games)

Vancouver  3  Vegas  2  (Shootout)

Bo Horvat scored two goals in 64 seconds for the 6-4 Canucks.

Vancouver played without Brock Boeseer (groin) and Elias Pettersson (concussion).

They also lost Chris Tanev (hip), Sven Baertschi (upper-body) and Alex Edler (lower-body) during the game.

There are four Canadian teams that play Thursday in the NHL.

Vancouver is at 3-5 Arizona, Pittsburgh visits Calgary, Edmonton hosts Washington, and Montreal is at Buffalo.

CARIBOO COUGARS:

(BCMML)

The Cariboo Cougars are home this weekend at Kin 1.

The 3-3-2 Major Midget Cougars host the 3-5 Kootenay Ice Saturday afternoon at 4 and Sunday morning at 10:30.

 

NORTHERN CAPITALS:

The Northern Capitals female midget hockey team will host the Greater Vancouver Comets in a tripleheader this weekend at Kin 2.

Games are scheduled for Friday night at 6, Saturday night at 5:45 and Sunday morning at 10.

 

VOLLEYBALL:

Prince George has been selected by Volleyball Canada to host the NORCECA U-19 Men’s Pan American Cup, July 22nd to 28th, 2019.

The tournament will be held at the Northern Sport Centre.

Canada did not participate in the last U-19 Pan Am Cup in 2017, but will bring a team to next year’s event.

 

UNBC TIMBERWOLVES:

(Canada West Women’s Soccer) 

The 3-8-3 UNBC Timberwolves will play the 6-5-3 Manitoba Bisons Friday night at UBC in the Canada West women’s soccer play-in game.

The winner advances to the quarter-finals on Sunday against the UBC Thunderbirds.

The Timberwolves took the sixth and final spot in the Pacific Division.

Manitoba finished third in the Prairie Division.

After posting back-to-back shutouts, UNBC goalkeeper Brooke Molby was named the Canada West women’s second star of the week.

Molby finished the regular season with a .836 save-percentage, good for second among all keepers in the conference.

Both the UNBC men’s and women’s basketball teams begin their Canada West regular season on the road this weekend.

The Timberwolves visit the Mount Royal Cougars Friday and Saturday night.

The UNBC women are ranked fifth and men 10th in the Canada West basketball coaches pre-season poll.

The Timberwolves have their home openers on November 2nd and 3rd against the Winnipeg Wesmen.

BLUE JAYS: (UPDATE AT NOON)

Tampa Bay Rays bench coach Charlie Montoyo is the new manager of the Toronto Blue Jays.

The 53-year-old Montoyo takes over from John Gibbons.

World Series: (Game Two)

Boston Red Sox  4  Los Angeles Dodgers  2

The Red Sox doubled the Dodgers for the second straight game.

Boston will take a 2-0 lead into game three of the World Series Friday night in LA.

Toronto is one of five unbeaten teams in the NBA along with the 4-0 Denver Nuggets and Milwaukee Bucks

The Raptors host the 2-2 Dallas Mavericks on Friday.

 

NFL:

Week Eight of the NFL season starts tonight with the Miami Dolphins at the Houston Texans.

Both the Dolphins and Texans are 4-3.

Houston is on a four-game win streak.

 

CFL:

The BC Lions have two regular season games remaining.

They visit Saskatchewan Saturday before closing with a home game against Calgary on November 3rd.

The 9-7 Lions are one of five CFL teams that have clinched a playoff spot.

BC Hockey’s North Central zone teams host their first ever games in Prince George over the next two weekends.

The Bantam AA North Central Bobcats will welcome the Okanagan Thompson team Saturday at 1:00 p.m. in Kin 1 and Sunday at 8:30 a.m. in the CN Centre.

The Midget AA North Central Bobcats host the Okanagan Central team on Saturday, November 3rd at 12:30 p.m. in Kin 1 and Sunday Nov. 4th  at 8:45a.m. in Kin 1.
