UNBC TIMBERWOLVES:

(Canada West Women’s Soccer)

The 3-8-3 UNBC Timberwolves play the 6-5-3 Manitoba Bisons tonight at UBC in the Canada West women’s soccer play-in game.

The winner advances to the quarter-finals at UBC on Sunday against the second place Thunderbirds.

The Timberwolves earned the sixth and final spot in the Pacific Division.

Manitoba finished third in the Prairie Division.

The UNBC Timberwolves begin their Canada West men’s and women’s basketball regular season on the road.

The Timberwolves visit the Mount Royal Cougars tonight and Saturday in Calgary.

The UNBC women are ranked fifth and men 10th in the Canada West basketball coaches pre-season poll.

The Timberwolves have their home openers on November 2nd and 3rd against the Winnipeg Wesmen.

 

PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

(WHL)

The Prince George Cougars play the Rockets for the fourth time this season.

The two teams meet Saturday in Kelowna.

The Cats are 2-1 in the season series.

The Rockets are 1-0 since Adam Foote took over as head coach.

The 5-6-0-2 Cougars are third in the BC Division, two points ahead of the 5-10 Rockets and five points in front of the 3-6-0-1 Kamloops Blazers.

Prince George is coming off a 4-3 shootout loss to Tri-City as the Americans erased a 3-1 deficit.

Cougars forward Ilijah Colina suffered an undisclosed injury in Wednesday’s game.

 

PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

(BCHL)

The 10-5-0-1 Prince George Spruce Kings have three road games in as many days.

They visit the 7-6-3-1 Trail Smoke Eaters tonight, the 8-6-2 Wenatchee Wild Saturday, and the 8-6-1 Salmon Arm Silverbacks Sunday.

The Spruce Kings are third in the Mainland Division, four points behind the Coquitlam Express and five back of the Chilliwack Chiefs.

Prince George has two games in hand on both Coquitlam and Chilliwack.

 

NHL: (Canadian teams went 1-3 on Thursday)

The Canucks played without five regulars; Brock Boeser (groin), Elias Pettersson (concussion), Chris Tanev (hip), Sven Baertschi (upper-body) and Alex Edler (lower-body).

The 6-5 Canucks will host the 5-1-2 Pittsburgh Penguins on Saturday to begin a four-game homestand.

CARIBOO COUGARS:

The Cariboo Cougars have a pair of BCMML home games this weekend at Kin 1.

The 3-3-2 Major Midget Cougars entertain the 3-5 Kootenay Ice Saturday afternoon at 4 and Sunday morning at 10:30.

 

NORTHERN CAPITALS:

The 3-2-1 Northern Capitals female midget hockey team will host the 9-0 Greater Vancouver Comets in a tripleheader this weekend at Kin 2.

Games are scheduled for tonight at 6, Saturday night at 5:45 and Sunday morning at 10.

 

BANTAM-MIDGET AA HOCKEY:

BC Hockey’s North Central zone teams host their first ever games in Prince George.

The Bantam AA North Central Bobcats will welcome the Okanagan Thompson team Saturday afternoon at 1:00 in Kin 1 and Sunday morning at 8:30 in the CN Centre.

The Midget AA North Central Bobcats host the Okanagan Central team on Saturday, November 3rd at 12:30 p.m. in Kin 1 and Sunday Nov. 4th  at 8:45a.m. in Kin 1.

VOLLEYBALL:

Prince George has been selected by Volleyball Canada to host the NORCECA U-19 Men’s Pan American Cup, July 22nd to 28th, 2019.

The tournament will be held at the Northern Sport Centre.

Canada did not participate in the last U-19 Pan-Am Cup in 2017, but will bring a team to next year’s event.

 

NFL: (Start of Week Eight)

Houston Texans  42  Miami Dolphins  23

QB Deshaun Watson threw five touchdown passes for the 5-3 Texans who won their fifth straight game.

The Dolphins are 4-4 at the midway point of their regular season.

There are a dozen NFL games on Sunday including; Seattle at Detroit, Green Bay at the 7-0 LA Rams, Denver at 6-1 Kansas City and New Orleans at Minnesota.

 

CFL:

It’s the second last weekend of the CFL regular season.

The Calgary Stampeders visit the Winnipeg Blue Bombers tonight.

The 12-4 Stamps can clinch first with a victory while the 9-7 Bombers can locked up a playoff spot with a win.

The B.C. Lions play Saturday in Saskatchewan.

The Toronto Blue Jays found their replacement for departed manager John Gibbons.

The Jays hired 53-year-old Tampa Bay Rays bench coach Charlie Montoyo as their new skipper.

 

WORLD SERIES:

The World Series has shifted to Los Angeles for games three and four tonight and Saturday night.

The Boston Red Sox won the first two games 8-4 and 4-2 to take a 2-0 lead over the Dodgers.

The 5-0 Toronto Raptors have matched their best start in team history.

Toronto is one of four unbeaten teams in the NBA along with the 4-0 Milwaukee Bucks and Detroit Pistons plus the 3-0 New Orleans Pelicans.

The Raptors host the 2-2 Dallas Mavericks tonight.
