PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

(WHL)

The Prince George Cougars host the Brandon Wheat Kings tonight in their only meeting of the season.

This is stop five on a seven-game road trip for the (6-3-3-2) Wheat Kings, who have dropped their last five, with three of those games going beyond regulation time.

Brandon is coming off a 3-2 shootout loss in Langley to the Vancouver Giants.

It’s the beginning of a three-game home stand for the Cougars, with a special start time of 6:30PM.

The 5-6-1-2 Cougars, who have lost three straight, are tied with the 6-6-0-1 Kamloops Blazers for third in the BC Division, one point ahead of the 6-10 Kelowna Rockets.

Prince George is fresh off a 4-3 OT loss in Kelowna as Nolan Foote scored at 43 seconds of overtime on the power-play.

The Cougars celebrate Halloween a day early as families can trick-or-treat on the concourse starting at 5:30 pm.

 

NHL: (Two Monday games)

Elias Pettersson scored twice and Jacob Markstrom made 37 saves for the 7-6 Canucks who continue a four-game homestand Wednesday against Chicago and Friday vs. Colorado.

The Leafs played without Auston Matthews who is out at least four weeks with a shoulder injury.

There are 11 Tuesday games in the NHL with four Canadian teams in action; Calgary is at Buffalo, Montreal hosts Dallas, Edmonton entertains Minnesota, and Ottawa plays in Arizona.

 

PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

(BCHL)

After playing their last six on the road, the Prince George Spruce Kings have their next four at the RMCA starting Friday against the Alberni Valley Bulldogs.

The Spruce Kings finished 2-1 on the weekend after they travelled 1,831 kilometres, which was capped off with a 2-1 loss in Salmon Arm.

The 12-6-0-1 Spruce Kings also host the Penticton Vees on Saturday and the Langley Rivermen November 9th and 10th.

Prince George is third in the Mainland Division, two points behind the Coquitlam Express and five back of the Chilliwack Chiefs.

Spruce Kings sniper Ben Brar is tied for the BCHL lead in goals with 15 (along with Kevin Wall of Chilliwack).

Brar is 12th in league scoring with 21 points in 19 games.

 

CARIBOO COUGARS:

(BCMML)

The Cariboo Cougars will visit the (2-7-1) South Island Royals Saturday night at 6:30 and Sunday morning at 8:30 in Saanich.

The 5-3-2 Major Midget Cougars are in sixth place in the BCMML, but just four points out of first.

 

PG MIDGET HOCKEY:

BC Hockey’s Midget AA North Central Bobcats host the Okanagan Central team Saturday at 12:30PM and Sunday at 8:45AM in Kin 1.

 

UNBC TIMBERWOLVES:

(Canada West Basketball)

The UNBC Timberwolves have their home openers this weekend in Canada West women’s and men’s basketball.

The Winnipeg Wesmen provide the opposition at the Northern Sport Centre with games Friday night at 6 and 8 and Saturday night at 5 and 7.

Both UNBC teams are off to a 2-0 start after convincing road victories over the Mount Royal Cougars.

Winnipeg is 0-2 in the women’s division and 1-1 in the men’s standings.

The season ended for the UNBC women’s soccer team after a 3-1 quarter-final loss to the UBC Thunderbirds.

 

NFL: (Final game in week 8)

Fifth straight victory for the 6-2 Patriots, who have reached the midway mark of their schedule.

Cleveland Browns defensive co-ordinator Gregg Williams has taken over as the team’s interim head coach.

The Browns fired Hue Jackson a day after Cleveland lost its 25th straight road games.

Jackson had just three wins in 40 games in 2 1/2 seasons.

The Browns, who host the (7-1) Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday, also dismissed offensive co-ordinator Todd Haley.

CFL: (Week 20)

The BC Lions will host the Calgary Stampeders Saturday in the final game of the CFL regular season.

The 9-8 Lions will finish 4th and play at Hamilton in the East semi-final.

The 12-5 Stamps need a win to finish first in the West.
