Jansen Harkins scored twice and added two assists and Marc McNulty notched a goal and two helpers as the Prince George Cougars spoiled the Kamloops Blazers Teddy Bear toss night. The Cougars won 6-3 to get back to .500 (15-15). Harkins was plus four and McNulty plus three against the Blazers. This was the second road win in as many nights for the Cats who upset Kelowna 4-3 Friday. The Cougars host Saskatoon Tuesday in their Teddy Bear Toss game.

–The Chilliwack Chiefs exploded with three consecutive goals in less than three minutes (2:50) late in the second period as they doubled the Prince George Spruce Kings 6-3 before 1,086 fans at the PG Coliseum. The top two teams in the BCHL Mainland Division split the doubleheader as P.G. won 5-2 on Friday. The (19-9-0-1) Chiefs lead the (17-12-0-2) Spruce Kings by three points and Chilliwack has two games in hand. The Spruce Kings host Merritt Friday and Cowichan Valley Saturday in their final “home” games in 2014.

–The first place Major Midget Cariboo Cougars skunked the last place Thompson Blazers 11-0 for their 9th consecutive victory. The same teams meet again today (Sunday) at 11:30 a.m. at Kin 1.

–Megan Heinicke of Prince George ended up 82nd in the women’s 7.5-kilometre sprint event at a World Cup biathlon race in Oestersund, Sweden. Heinicke was the third of four Canadians to finish. Earlier in the week (in Sweden), the 26-year-old Heinicke had a career best 12th place showing in the women’s 15-kilometre individual race.

–With wins over D.P. Todd, College Heights and Fort St. James the Cedars Christian Eagles earned top honors at the Kelly Road senior girls basketball tournament.
