The Major Midget Cariboo Cougars are riding a 10-game winning streak after they pasted the last place Thompson Blazers. The (19-2-1) Cougars won 11-0 Saturday and 5-1 Sunday. They outshot Thompson 68-20 in the 2nd game.
The Cougars lead the BCMML by six points over the second place Okanagan Rockets. Cariboo will host the North Island Silvertips Saturday at 4:45 p.m. and Sunday at 8:30 a.m. at Kin 1.

–An excellent weekend on the road for the Prince George Cougars. The Cougars are back to .500 at 15-15 after scoring a 4-3 victory in Kelowna followed by a 6-3 triumph in Kamloops. The Cats scored four unanswered goals in the 2nd period against the Rockets to erase a 2-0 deficit. Jansen Harkins scored twice and added two assists and Marc McNulty notched a goal and two helpers against the Blazers. The Cougars are 3rd in the B.C. Division and will host their Teddy Bear toss game Tuesday against the (7-21-2-1) Saskatoon Blades. The Cats also play in Everett Friday and Spokane Saturday before hosting Spokane December 16 and 17 in their final action prior to the Christmas break.

–The Prince George Spruce Kings split their home doubleheader against the BCHL Mainland Division leading Chilliwack Chiefs. The Spruce Kings won the opener 5-2 (Friday before 983 fans) before the Chiefs came back for a 6-3 victory (Saturday in front of 1,086 fans). The (19-9-0-1) Chiefs lead the (17-12-0-2) Spruce Kings by three points and Chilliwack has two games in hand. P.G. is three points ahead of 3rd place Langley. The Spruce Kings host (16-12-0-2) Merritt Friday and (9-20-0-1) Cowichan Valley Saturday in their final “home” games in 2014.

–At the World Cup biathlon races in Oestersund, Sweden, Megan Heinicke of Prince George finished 82nd and third out of four Canadians in the women’s 7.5-kilometre sprint event. The 26-year-old Heinicke was coming off a career best 12th place effort in the women’s 15-kilometre individual race.

–Cedars Christian began the north central high school senior girls basketball season by winning a tournament at Kelly Road. Cedars went 3-0 with victories over D.P. Todd, College Heights and Fort St. James.
