While the Northern capital has dropped in rank on the list of dangerous cities, it’s still well above the national average for crime severity.
Maclean’s Magazine has just released its Most Dangerous Places List for 2019 and Prince George made number 21, last year the city was number 11.
Wetaskiwin, Alberta nabbed the first place title, followed by Red Deer and Lethbridge.
According to the report, both the Crime Severity Index and the Violent Crime Severity index are up from last year at 175 and 165, both more than double Canada’s average.
Those aren’t the only numbers Prince George is blowing out of the water, the city is up from the national average in a number of other categories including:

- Assault rate: 850.29 (Canada avg.: 430.68)
- Sexual assault rate: 67.27 (Canada avg.: 56.56)
- Breaking & Entering rate: 929.66 (Canada avg.: 438.51
- Youth Criminal Justice Act offences rate: 126.47 (Canada avg.: 16.74)
Prince George reported four homicides so far this year, 632 cases of assault, 50 sexual assaults, and 691 cases of breaking and entering.
The report ranks communities according to the Crime Severity Index (CSI), a Statistics Canada measure of all police-reported crime, which takes into consideration both the volume and seriousness of offences.
