PRINCE GEORGE COUGARS:

(WHL)

The 7-7-1-2 Prince George Cougars play the (12-3-2) Vancouver Giants Saturday night and Sunday afternoon in Langley.

The Giants lead the BC Division and Western Conference standings.

The Cougars are third in the BC Division, three points ahead of both Kamloops and Kelowna.

Prince George is also one point in front of Seattle in the Western Conference.

PRINCE GEORGE SPRUCE KINGS:

(BCHL)

The Prince George Spruce Kings wrap up a four-game homestand with a doubleheader against the 9-10-1 Langley Rivermen tonight and Saturday.

The 14-6-0-1 Spruce Kings are tied with the Coquitlam Express for second in the Mainland Division, five points behind the Chilliwack Chiefs.

Prince George and Coquitlam both have three games in hand on Chilliwack.

Spruce Kings sniper Ben Brar has 16 goals, second in the BCHL behind Kevin Wall of Chilliwack who has 19.

 

CARIBOO COUGARS:

The 7-3-2 Cariboo Cougars, winners of their last five, visit the (10-4) Okanagan Rockets Saturday night at 5 and Sunday morning at 10 in Kelowna.

The Major Midget Cougars are in fourth place in the BCMML, four points out of first.

 

NHL: (Four Canadian teams in action Thursday)

Vancouver  8  Boston  5

Bo Horvat scored twice and added two assists for the Canucks who erupted with five goals in the second period.

Vancouver super rookie Elias Pettersson had just one assist.

The 10-6-1 Canucks are 1-0-1 on their six-game road trip. They visit Buffalo Saturday, NY Rangers Monday, NY Islanders Tuesday, and Minnesota Thursday.

Winger Brock Boeser has returned home to Vancouver to have his lingering groin injury looked at by a specialist.

Canucks GM Jim Benning says Boeser won’t play again until he is “100 percent.”

The Chicago Blackhawks lost 4-3 to the Carolina Hurricanes in their first game since Jeremy Colliton replaced Joel Quenneville as head coach.

Willie Desjardins is 1-1 as the head coach of the LA Kings after a 3-1 loss against the Minnesota Wild.

Pittsburgh’s Evgeni Malkin will not be suspended by the NHL after laying out Washington’s T.J. Oshie in the Penguins 2-1 loss to the Capitals.

Malkin was given a major penalty on the play for an illegal hit to the head and a game misconduct.

There are six Friday games in the NHL but only two Canadian teams are in action.

Winnipeg hosts Colorado and Toronto entertains New Jersey.

 

CHL CANADA-RUSSIA SERIES:

(Game Three in Sarnia, Ontario)

Team OHL  3  Russia  1

The Russians are 1-2 in the six-game series.

They split with the WHL: (2-1 WHL win followed by 3-1 Russia victory).

Russia will also play Monday in Oshawa, Ontario before concluding with two games against the QMJHL on Tuesday in Sherbrooke and Thursday in Drummondville.

 

UNBC TIMBERWOLVES:

The UNBC Timberwolves have the bye this weekend in Canada West basketball.

The Timberwolves return to action on November 16th and 17th with home games at the Northern Sport Centre against the Trinity Western University (TWU) Spartans.

The UNBC women are 4-0 while the men sit 3-1.

Francesco Bartolillo is the first player with the UNBC Timberwolves to win a U-Sports national award.

The all-time leading goal scorer in UNBC men’s soccer history is the recipient of the STUDENT-ATHLETE COMMUNITY SERVICE AWARD.

 

NFL: (Start of week 10)

Pittsburgh Steelers  52  Carolina Panthers  21

Fifth-straight win for the 6-2-1 Steelers.

The Panthers slip to 6-3.

There are a dozen Sunday games in the NFL including Seattle at LA Rams, New Orleans at Cincinnati, New England at Tennessee and the night match-up of Dallas at Philadelphia.

 

CFL:

The CFL nominees for Most Outstanding Player are Calgary Stampeders quarterback Bo Levi Mitchell and Hamilton Tiger-Cats QB Jeremiah Masoli.

Kicker Ty Long of the BC Lions is the West finalist for top special teams player.

HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL:

The PGSS Polars host the Samuel Robertson Technical Titans of Maple Ridge Saturday night at 5 in the first round of provincial BCSSFA Double-A Varsity playoffs at Masich Place Stadium.

PGSS quarterback Braden Reed, is the BC High School football player of the week.

Also on Saturday at Masich, Kelly Road Double-A Varsity will play the G.W. Graham Grizzlies at 11AM and the junior varsity College Heights Cougars will tackle the South Kamloops Titans at 2:30PM.
